I assumed the article would be about America, where a disturbing minority of Christians look at their brethren being murdered for their faith in places like Syria and Ethiopia and think "That's not *nearly* as bad as we have it here -- why just last week I was asked to stop screaming 'HARLOT!' while handing out Chick tracts in the condom aisle at the Piggly Wiggly!"

I wish people would stop killing each other to establish which fairy tale is better.

They all suck.

So the article, such as it is, just talks about how Christians are oppressed in countries where they are in the religious minority? Not really an earth-shattering revelation. God fearing Americans will read it and instead of thinking, "That's horrible, nobody should be treated this way!" they'll say, "See, this is why we have to kill all the Muslims!".

I really want to know where you meet these people. Christians are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Hell, even the Jehovah's witnessess are friendly. Methinks you're projecting a little too much.

"Ethiopia, which is two-thirds Christian, shot up from 38th to 15th place in the ranking due to a "complex mix of persecution dynamics" including attacks by radical Islamists and reprisals by traditional Christians against new Protestant movements."

So some of that oppression is coming from... yep, other Christians. WTG.

Take the ten commandants and remove the three which specifically reference God and how to worship Him. You're left with seven rules about how to live your life and love your fellow man. Toss in the Golden Rule and you've got a solid moral code. Most major religions teach the same lessons. It's just the human element farks it up by adding in the God stuff.

Ah yes, it's been a few days since a thread was greenlit to bring out all the Fark trolls to bash religion.
If only it could have been combined with a gun thread, and throw in something about the Tea Party.

It could have been a perfect storm.

I shall now leave this tread, as seeing trolls masterbating while furiously posting, makes me nauseous.

So true. I've noticed that whenever people wax romantic about how the early white settlers of North America were "fleeing persecution to find religious freedom", they're essentially talking about how Christians were fleeing from other Christians--not from Muslims, atheists or Jews. Talk about selective memory ....

Oddly enough, it's this sort of story which makes me keep the world's tiniest violin on hand for when Christians in the US complain about "being oppressed" in this country.

That is also the answer to the question of why is the US so religious. I mean seriously a lot of our early founders were the folks who fled or were kicked out of Europe for being too religious.

To be fair, some were fleeing Muslims, atheists and Jews, they just weren't fast enough, hence the boatride over here.
