Just think, there were tens of millions of Americans who really wanted Ryan to be picking out a room at the Naval Observatory for "blasting my quads, dawg!"

FTA: a "one-celled human embryo," even before it implants in the uterus to create a pregnancy, should be granted "all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood

ALL attributes and privileges of personhood? Awesome. So my friend who just got IVF like, the other day, can now claim the one celled critter as a dependent on her taxes? This cunning plan has clearly been thought all the way through!

Well, good luck with that.

This would be a fertilized egg, right? So before the fertilized eggs implants on the uterine wall, it is considered a person. This means that the "pill", hormonal birth control, will be illegal. Period. One of the ways the pill can work (but not the primary) is to prevent implantation of the fertilized egg onto the uterine wall. From what I was always told, this is the main reason the Catholic church is against the pill.

Clearly. Plus, if the mother has a miscarriage, we have to investigate her to make sure it wasn't on purpose, and therefore murder.

You know, I got IVF. 2 fertilized eggs were implanted in me. One took, one didn't. Does that make me an accessory to murder?

Claiming a dependent on your taxes is the example you go for?  Really?  So, the personhood bill would extend that tax break to 9 months earlier than where it currently starts.  So what?
The general idea behind having dependents is that it lowers your tax burden to offset the expense of raising a child.  You think being pregnant (especially through IVF) isn't expensive?

We don't really know if hormonal birth control prevents implantation. Research has not conclusively shown this to be true or false.

sounds like the medical board should take a look at how you were given a license to practice medicine.

I will continue to fight this atrocity on behalf of the unborn

no no, the only atrocity here is how you're allowed to practice medicine and have a direct say in the law making process on a national level.

It's bigger than that, it is common for women to conceive and never implant without ever being aware of it. Because his bill gives personhood to a single cell any woman of child bearing age could have up to 13 dependents each year that unfortunately died before making it to two cells. Woman of child bearing age could drive in the HOV lane because even if she never has a child she could have a one cell person with her.

The majority of them don't give a shiat about the unborn, they just want women put "back in their place." This isn't even a conspiracy theory. They openly admit it.

You'd have trouble going that far.  There's plenty of things you could do that have side effects that would increase the likelihood of a fertilized embryo.  So, unless we wanted to make it illegal to eat junk food, etc...

In my book, it's about intent.  If you view that as an unfortunate side effect of the pill's greater function (i.e. preventing the eggs from being fertilized in the first place), then you're in the clear.  If you think of it as an added bonus, you're an asshole.

Interesting. I'm sure the proponents of this bill will carefully consider this scientific data from respected medical researchers and err on the side of caution, continuing to allow HBC, regardless if some of their religious backers think it is murder.

To add to your point, they care only for the babies as a theory, not the actual babies themselves. Once the child is born, it's the bootstrappy mother's problem, If she can't afford it, that's her own damn fault.

It's an attempt to enforce the abstinence only program on adults.
