Johnny Depp set a better example. Several months ago, Depp turned down the role of Mexican revolutionary Francisco "Pancho" Villa in another film. He said that the role should go to a Latino. I praised Depp at the time for showing that, besides being a great actor, he is also a person of character.

Oh Fark that. I like Depp a lot, but using that logic, his role of Tonto in the forthcoming Lone Ranger movie should have gone to a Native American.

And Ben Affleck got the starring role because the director - a guy named Ben Affleck - thought Ben Affleck would do a good job acting and that a movie starring Ben Affleck would get seats in butts in theater. Ben Affleck.

That's what I thought, then I looked it up and apparently he's got a Native American ancestor.

I am shocked - SHOCKED! - that a movie directed by Ben Affleck would also star Ben Affleck.

Maybe the Latino community should have pushed for a different director for Argo? Someone who would have made sure to put a Latino actor in the lead role. You know, like Ben Stiller, perhaps?

Canadians are so sensitive, the movie did talk about how much they did and the audience understood they put themselves in danger to accomplish this task. Not to mention all the banners at the end of the thanking the Canadians.

So in closing, take off ya hosers.

I wanted to see this movie when I first heard about it. I knew the story from years ago and I always thought in the back of my head how it would be a great movie. Then after I found out how much they butchered the story I figured I would wait til it came out on red box. Thank you Canada you rock now please take my whore ex back.

America's ethnic obsession is so farking tedious. And CNN knows it drives webclicks and knows it has no credibility anymore so it keeps at it.

What if he'd been played by a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Hispanic? Would that have satisfied the bill? Is this man similarly outraged that Abraham Lincoln wasn't Irish, yet was portrayed by an Irishman?

Canada saved the day on 9/11 and didn't even get an acknowledgement from George Bush. That was shameful. The administration explained it's because "we're family!" I FOR ONE know that I wouldn't manage to eke out a "thanks!" to my little brother if he saved my life. Right, right.

Canada's doing pretty well for itself right now, despite their PM and IdleNoMore. I think the US should hold back on our gloating for a bit until our congress isn't making us the laughingstock of the world and our deficit gets wiped down to a single trillion.

I could care less if he was just honest about the fact that he wanted to make money so he didn't cast a Hispanic. Hell he could have been all, "In this day and age I would hope that people would care less about ethnicity and enjoy an amazing story," and left it at that. But what does bug me was when Ben Affleck says:

"Tony does not have, I don't know what you would say, a Latin/Spanish accent" and that "You wouldn't necessarily select him out of a line of 10 people and go 'This guy's Latino.' "

To me it sounds like "well he's not that Hispanic because he doesn't meet a stereotype" Looking at some of Mendez's pictures, he looks Hispanic to me.

Idlenomore is a load of crap. Sun news had an interesting graphic (yes I know Fox News north) that detailed how much waste there is at the top of the Attiwapiskat pyramid. The feds have given a lot of money to first nations to help with housing etc. Problem is that the families, who got the houses from the band, don't feel the same sense of ownership and let things get into disrepair, like a renter does in an apartment.

When it falls apart they call the band, asking for a new house because the old one is broken. The band then cries that the feds don't give them enough money.

And to say that it is Sweatervests fault is also crap. These have been systemic problems for decades. I'd be for giving them even more money than they have now, with the understanding that if or when things get farked up that they have to own it.

I had dinner with Ken Taylor at the Canadian ambassador's residence in NYC a few years back. Ken was quite forthcoming about his role in getting the Americans out of Iran, but he was "yeah, well that was in the past". (Meanwhile, my jaw dropped with the casual manner he talked about it).

Shame that Ken and John Sheardown were not given proper credit in 'Argo' for their actions. Both of them are heroes regardless of what country they are from.

What credit would you want? It was very clear what they risked and that they had an active role in helping get them out, but a movie is not that long and they couldnt put every single detail in the film, would you also want the fact they spent 6 days or so hiding out in other homes before getting to his? Get over it, the film was good and hit the high points without downplaying the fact he risked his and his families safety to help get them out of the country.

Wayne 985: I haven't seen this movie, but he still plays Tony Mendez, right? The character is still Latino, even if he looks a bit whiter?

Yes same name so I dont see the problem either, it seems canada is just pissy their role was exposed as being about 55% responsible and not 100% responsible, still wouldnt have been done if they didnt help, besides this was exposed over a decade ago.

Ok we get it, you think Canadians are pissy, anyone could have read your five other posts and came to the same conclusion.

No I don't, I just don't get why people are pissy because they got all the credit before and feel its being over looked now.

The movie is 2 hours long, to get every detail it would have to be a 6-8 hour series. It hit the high point, which is they made up a movie to get them out of a hostile situation.

Krieghund: Johnny Depp set a better example.

"Tony does not have, I don't know what you would say, a Latin/Spanish accent" and that "You wouldn't necessarily select him out of a line of 10 people and go 'This guy's Latino.' "

Spoken like a true, ignorant, dopey Boston kid.

Then again I blame this shiat on the media, who have become our fill-in educators since Public Schools are clueless in the arena of sociology and culture. The Media, who, in their infinite chase for the next dollar, muddy the waters by identifying a Latino who kills someone black as "white-latino" to fit their narrative, then further shiats in those same waters by identifying Latinos in the November election as "the fastest growing racial group that will outnumber whites by 2030".

Its no wonder people say dumb as stereotypical shiat as Benji. Then again, he's part of the same ilk who thinks Barack Obama is universally excepted simply because he "speaks so well". Ugh.

We won't hear the term "White Hispanic" again until Marco Rubio runs for President.

And yet they added in a detail that was completely wrong and claimed the British didn't want to help, when in fact the British embassy were the first to hide the Americans and helped with the rest of the escape. They could have just left that out, but they actually added in that claim.

T.rex: There are any number of Latinos in Hollywood they could've given the role.... George Lopez, Luiz Guzman, ...Cheech... I can't believe they didn't go with any of those guys.

Or Michael Pena./a>

Was Ruben upset when a latino chick (Cameron Diaz) played an Irish immigrant in "Gangs of New York"? I kind of doubt it.

It's pretty simple. Affleck was the director, they had a relatively low budget, so they could kill 2 birds with one stone, and if they'd cast Wilmer Valderamma, they would have sold maybe 5 tickets, all to people with the surname Valderamma.

Yeah....see how when you read my post that some words were italicized and some weren't? The italicized words weren't actually said by me, they were said by the person I was quoting. Just like how your words appear above my current post.

The more you know.

BronyMedic: Shut up Canada.

God. Always trying to ride the other countries coattails.

When is the last time you people apologized for Celene Dion or Bryan Adams? Do that, and we'll talk.

George Bush and Honey Boo Boo? Talk is done.

It did look like you were criticising FLMM for saying ."excepted" when it wasn't him who said it.
