How ESPN makes a profit from showing these games amazes me. There is nobody in the stands and I'm sure the hair club for men doesn't pay much for their commercials.

Meh, aside from that play where Lewan called the release to the TE, the TE didn't hear it, and as a result Clowney got to kill Vincent Smith, he wasn't much of a factor.

Now that Ace guy, that guy was as advertised.

Well I for one think it's awesome there are 35 bowl games. It's cool to watch the football sail high in the air to reveal an empty upper deck in the background. It also makes me feel good that you only need to win six games a season and you can get the college football equivalent of a 'participant' ribbon.

And who doesn't love taking the "Does This Bowl Game Exist or Not?" online quiz? Pure fun! This year I got 17 out of 20 right.

/I'm told the Belk Bowl was awesome.

they should just put the SEC championship game in for the sake that it was F'ing amazing.

Going back and looking at it, you're right that there was a horribly blown coverage. Lewan blocked in, the TE blocked a linebacker, and no one blocked Clowney. It's not that Lewan got beat or anything, it's that someone didn't understand an assignment.

Lewan totally handled him the vast majority of the time. When it comes down to it, I think that Lewan really helped his draft stock during that game.

Agreed, Lewan made himself a lot of money for himself in upcoming drafts by shutting down Clowney for the most part. Everyone will only remember the hit though.

Heart of Dallas Bowl 35?!? I was there and I can tell you that ranking is a travesty.
Well, OK, it's pretty much dead on. In addition to being a bad game, it was also cold and wet, so it had that going for it.
We had no rooting interest, just something for the guy contingent of my in-laws from out of town to do while the girls went shopping. The youngsters, all 8 and under, seemed to have a good time, so it was all worthwhile in the end.

I don't follow college football much (aside from my alma maters), but figured I'd check out the BCS Championship game. I figure, it's the championship game, it's the best two teams in college football. This should be a great matchup.

How the fark was Notre Dame even on the same field as Alabama? Can someone give me a good reason why there's still no playoff system in place for college football?

Because the BCS contract has yet to expire. There will be a playoff to replace it in 2015 once the contract has expired.

Yeah...it's easy for an OL to "control" someone when he's allowed to grab, hold and pretty much tackle his opponent using his facemask, hair/dreads and jersey as Lewan did to Clowney ALL DAMN DAY.

Those Big Least officials sucked donkey nuts...but we Gamecocks got the last laugh...BOOM!

I'm gonna throw a dispute in favor of the godaddy.com bowl. The guy's biatching because the Sun Belt and MAC reps didn't throw up a billion points? That game was a solid defensive struggle that came down to a clutch stop on a 4th down attempt by A-State in the waning moments, and the Red Wolves won their first bowl game and first win over a top-25 team ever. And this guy's biatching that there wasn't enough POINTS scored?

Feh.

Ditto. And it's hard to argue against anything said about that game. Purdue didn't deserve to be in a bowl game in the first place, Oklahoma State was a terrible mismatch for them, and it was never a contest at all.

went to the music city bowl (as is our tradition every year now), NC state put up a fight but vanderbilt pretty much steamrolled them, game was over by halftime

still the best was when Dooley Vols played UNC a few years ago, not only was it close but the amount of anguish in the whole thing was pretty great

The Armed Forces Bowl was awesome, as anyone who followed the Owls this year knows already. Watching the team climb back from a 1-5 start to finish with a bowl victory was great.

This is especially true when your team is from a smaller conference, so the out-of-conference games are usually automatic losses rather than free wins. A 6-6 team from a small conference probably had a good season, while a 6-6 team from a BCS conference probably went 3-6 against teams from its own weight class.

The bowl system rewards teams for good years, and it gives us more football to watch. Moreover, most of the bowls are more exciting than the average game played on amid-autumn Saturday. What's not to like?

Les Miles has obviously decided to make large bets against himself in bowl season. Scoring 24 on Clemson is roughly equal to scoring 0 on Alabama.

As much as I like to see a Wolverine get clobbered, am I the only one who noticed Clowney led with the helmet big time on that tackle? Theoretically, that should have been a personal foul, first down, and fifteen yard penalty.

/it would have extended the drive for another play where a Wolverine gets flattened.

Would have actually been an interesting game had it been (the way it should have been) with Notre Dame vs Ohio State......

And really? Independence Bowl #34? Sorry but watching a MAC team trounce a team that beat #8 Arkansas, lost to Auburn in OT, and almost beat Baylor was a rousing good time.

Agreed. But if that travesty of a bowl win, to cap a travesty of a season, is the final nail in the coffin of Stinespring being the OC... I'm all for it. Bring on Pep Hamilton!

The system that they'll use starting in 2015 isn't going to really be a playoff. It's still going to be a subjectively chosen handful of teams instead of a system that is based entirely on on-the-field performance.

Yeah I thought that also, but, even as a Michigan fan, the previous call of first down by the line judge was bogus. It should have been South Carolina's ball anyway. Also: the offense tried relying on Denard Robinson too damn much, Clowney had his number the entire second half.
