Me, I couldn't give a flying buttress. What difference does it make whether they like to take it up the apse? Let them get married; anyone who pewkes all over their special day is worse than a nave.

Wow. That's actually.. not a bad thing.

It's rather refreshing to see a Christian, who actually understands the main points of the New Testament.

We exist. Usually, we're too farking embarrassed by 70% of the rest of Christianity.

Dr.Mxyzptlk.: "For us to be able to say we embrace same-sex marriage as a tool for faithful people to live their lives as Christian people "

Damn that alone will piss off a lot Farkers here.

Not really.

If they want to live as Christian people, go for it. We could use some Christians that focus on the helping the poor and downtrodden instead of this stupid culture war.

It's when they start trying to use their faith to deny others rights on the basis of "Because God says so" that gets people pissed.

Subby is 100% correct - this should anger no one.

The government isn't forcing anyone to do anything. The Episcopal church has decide to expand their marriage rite to include same-sex couples.

So either everyone is okay with this, or the religious-right now wants the government to police religion.

You're a son of a biatch, You know that? She bought her first new car and You hit her with a drunk driver. What? Was that supposed to be funny? "You can't conceive, nor can I, the appalling strangeness of the mercy of God," says Graham Greene. I don't know whose ass he was kissing there, 'cause I think You're just vindictive. What was Josh Lyman - a warning shot? That was my son. What did I ever do to Yours but praise His glory and praise His Name? There's a tropical storm that's gaining speed and power. They say we haven't had a storm this bad since You took out that tender ship of mine in the North Atlantic last year. Sixty-eight crew. You know what a tender ship does? Fixes the other ships. It doesn't even carry guns. It just goes around, fixes the other ships and delivers the mail. That's all it can do. Gratias tibi ago, Domine. Yes, I lied. It was a sin. I've committed many sins. Have I displeased You, You feckless thug? 3.8 million new jobs, that wasn't good?

Bailed out Mexico. Increased foreign trade. Thirty million new acres of land for conservation. Put Mendoza on the bench. We're not fighting a war. I've raised three children. That's not enough to buy me out of the doghouse? Haec credam a Deo pio, a Deo iusto, a Deo scito? Cruciatus in crucem. Trus in terra servus, nuntius fui, officium perfeci. Cruciatus in crucem. Eas in crucem.

/You get Hoynes.

Still probably the best single scene I've ever seen on TV. Brilliant, brilliant episode.

thorthor: Yeah, Priests should be able to marry too, if it will help to keep them from farking little boys in the ass.

Wrong church. These guys are Episcopalian, not Roman Catholic priests. In the west they're protestants, priests can marry, be women, be openly gay. There is a bit of a schism going on at the moment, between the liberal west and the Global South though.

The problem, incidentally, with the Roman Catholic Church is not that their priests are necessarily inherently more rapey than religious leaders of other faiths. I think that there have been studies showing that the incidences of abuse in other faiths are proportionate. The problem is that the hierarchy protected these evil men, silenced their victims with threats of hell and moved the offenders to new parishes without warning the parishioners, enabling further abuse.

I just got into huge trouble at work and I'm pretty sure I'm getting fired here today because of standing up for the marriage of an openly gay coworker who just got engaged.

He (we'll call him Mark) is a very out gay engineer in my department, and is a friend of mine. Over lunch he told me he wasn't going to tell anyone else about his engagement to a well known local architect, but the ancient busybody HR lady eavesdropped on Mark planning with his fiancee and spread it around the office like wildfire. During our company meeting I stood up and said it was no business of anybody's what gender Mark's fiancee was and we should be happy for him embarking on a new life as a legally married husband.

I was apparently a minority of one because everyone totally laid into me and said that what he was doing was wrong, was a mockery of loving marriage, etc., and I lost it and began screaming at them that just because his fiancee happens to be female doesn't mean Mark is doing the wrong thing.

Then for some reason I still can't explain I threw out a really horrible misogynist/racist epithet at my boss' wife, and she threw icewater in my face.
Then after a long silence Mark told me he didn't want my kind of help.

Et tu Mark?

Just to point out an additional item, the head of the Episcopal Church in the US has a PhD in oceanography and is married (and has one child).

When churches can no longer tell people how to run their lives there will be no point in churches.

Churches shouldn't be required to provide or deny services which are against their faith!

*Unaffiliated church starts providing gay marriages*

Why won't the government stop these churches from performing these services!
