Thus far I haven't received the fundraising e-mail expressing fake outrage over this from extremist right wing organizations yet.  They must be out for an early lunch.

Churches shouldn't be required to provide or deny services which are against their faith!

*Unaffiliated church starts providing gay marriages*

Why won't the government stop these churches from performing these services!

Subby is 100% correct - this should anger no one.

The government isn't forcing anyone to do anything. The Episcopal church has decide to expand their marriage rite to include same-sex couples.

So either everyone is okay with this, or the religious-right now wants the government to police religion.

Not really.

If they want to live as Christian people, go for it. We could use some Christians that focus on the helping the poor and downtrodden instead of this stupid culture war.

It's when they start trying to use their faith to deny others rights on the basis of "Because God says so" that gets people pissed.

I'm waiting for the AFA or some other member of the derposphere to profile a conservative bride or groom who biatched and complained about how they couldn't get married on a certain day because that particular day the church was performing a gay wedding.

Then, just by chance and the sheer coincidence, the straight bride or groom ended up being killed in a car crash before their rescheduled wedding was set to take place thus being the only example in history where a gay marriage "threatened" a straight marriage.

You know someone is gonna try to force that connection. Might not be AFA, might be WND

2013-01-09 02:31:52 PM
I just got into huge trouble at work and I'm pretty sure I'm getting fired here today because of standing up for the marriage of an openly gay coworker who just got engaged.

He (we'll call him Mark) is a very out gay engineer in my department, and is a friend of mine. Over lunch he told me he wasn't going to tell anyone else about his engagement to a well known local architect, but the ancient busybody HR lady eavesdropped on Mark planning with his fiancee and spread it around the office like wildfire. During our company meeting I stood up and said it was no business of anybody's what gender Mark's fiancee was and we should be happy for him embarking on a new life as a legally married husband.

I was apparently a minority of one because everyone totally laid into me and said that what he was doing was wrong, was a mockery of loving marriage, etc., and I lost it and began screaming at them that just because his fiancee happens to be female doesn't mean Mark is doing the wrong thing.

Then for some reason I still can't explain I threw out a really horrible misogynist/racist epithet at my boss' wife, and she threw icewater in my face.
Then after a long silence Mark told me he didn't want my kind of help.

Et tu Mark?

thorthor: Yeah, Priests should be able to marry too, if it will help to keep them from farking little boys in the ass.

Wrong church. These guys are Episcopalian, not Roman Catholic priests. In the west they're protestants, priests can marry, be women, be openly gay. There is a bit of a schism going on at the moment, between the liberal west and the Global South though.

The problem, incidentally, with the Roman Catholic Church is not that their priests are necessarily inherently more rapey than religious leaders of other faiths. I think that there have been studies showing that the incidences of abuse in other faiths are proportionate. The problem is that the hierarchy protected these evil men, silenced their victims with threats of hell and moved the offenders to new parishes without warning the parishioners, enabling further abuse.

We are watching our society crumble right in front of our eyes.

The National Cathedral might as well start up with the animal sacrifices and chants to Lucifer as well.

Will the event be open-carry?After all, the RIGHT to keep and bear arms is actually in the Consititution.

I'd get the advice of a labor lawyer. The truth is, if the boss' wife wants you gone, you are gone sooner or later. Get some advice, and negotiate a severance good enough to get you another job, then get out of there. They will just make you miserable until you quit, otherwise.

Not in England, though, where the evangelical loonies are fighting fiercely against gay marriage, women bishops and just about everything else which Jesus would have approved of but Leviticus doesn't. They're none too happy about women priests, either. The Church of Wales and the Episcopal Church in Scotland, on the other hand, are cool.

trippdogg: Subby is 100% correct - this should anger no one.

The government isn't forcing anyone to do anything. The Episcopal church has decide to expand their marriage rite to include same-sex couples.

So either everyone is okay with this, or the religious-right now wants the government to police religion.

When the religion isn't theirs, you bet they do. Especially if it's one them brown people religions.

Thanks a lot, gaytards.

Jesus has never looked so punchable. Thanks for that, asshole.

Wow. That's actually.. not a bad thing.

It's rather refreshing to see a Christian, who actually understands the main points of the New Testament.

We exist. Usually, we're too farking embarrassed by 70% of the rest of Christianity.

At least you recognize that the asshat part of the community at the very least appears to be the majorty, if not actually IS the majority. There REALLY aren't enough of you.

/those that say "[the AFA, IFI, WBC, etc] don't represent the majority of christians, so stop picking on christians." are part of the problem.

The problem is they have all the most vocal members. Even if those of us like me shouted great things from every mountaintop, radio station, church and internet forum every day for several years, there still aren't enough of us to reach the backwards, hateful ones. I go to a church that is primarily composed of good, "real" Christians, but there aren't many churches like the one I go to.
