Didn't the XFL or whatever it was called do that?

Also, WTF was the punch for?

abhorrent1: Also, WTF was the punch for?

I still can't understand what Sherman is saying at that part. And he could of done something before (during the game) and said something then to instigate it.

His bro hug with RG3 was cool though.

2013-01-09 09:05:44 AM

thecpt: could of

sorry, could have.

anyways, sounds like Williams simply says "don't touch me" and Sherman does.

2013-01-09 09:11:36 AM
I watched the whole replay of the game because I was told Sherman would be mic'd up, then during the hour and a half broadcast, they played ONE clip of him...on the missed INT, where he took a few steps in silence, only tipped the ball, and said "ooh."

Then this comes out. THIS IS THE FOOTAGE I WAS LOOKING FOR, NFL NETWORK. You showed the altercation but not the video from it. Yeesh.

thecpt: I still can't understand what Sherman is saying at that part. And he could of done something before (during the game) and said something then to instigate it.

Williams is coming at him and he said "whatchu gonna do?" after he'd been cool with everyone else. Dude said he's going to punch him in the face, he says "do it then!"

/same with the ref telling him he's going to get flagged. "flag me then!"
//the punch was because Williams was frustrated at having his season ended

Okay, in my defense that video embedding is shiatty and I think it drags down the audio.

I hear now "i'm o punch ___" Was his mouth guard in?

thecpt: I hear now "i'm o punch ___" Was his mouth guard in?

I just posted a transcript for you. I guarantee that it was censored rather than the audio magically dropped in that spot. Censors seem to have thought that Williams "b*tch ass" during the punch wasn't clear enough to have to censor, however.

Oh, I suppose I could add the rest:

"What you gon' do, boy?"
"I'm gonna punch you in your *censored* face"
"Do it then, boy"
*punch* "b*tch ass"
*Sherman laughing at Williams*

2013-01-09 09:33:45 AM
BTW, it's clear it's censored because just a few seconds later in the clip:

RGIII "I'm so proud of you, boy"
Sherman "I'm so proud of you, (silence)"

/wherein the silence is virtually guaranteed to be covering up the n-word
//Williams' censored word begins with either n or f, that's for sure
///I have headphones so I actually have good audio

Yup.  That about covers 99% of all "provocative" pro athletes.  Couldn't stand Rodney Harrison til he was a Patriot.  Now I only marginally dislike him.

\again, if a player's so damned good, why didn't the sports establishment care about said player until they started being a troll?

He's big for a 12 year old.

FriarReb98: again, if a player's so damned good, why didn't the sports establishment care about said player until they started being a troll?

Because the sports establishment doesn't care about talent, they care about marketing. Unless someone trolls, it takes a lot of extra time for the sports media to notice "oh hey, this guy's pretty good." Especially if you play in Seattle. People that do advanced charting and watched games last year said Sherman was one of the best CBs in the league last year, as a rookie. He was the only guy in the secondary not to get selected to the Pro Bowl (though, in fairness, he didn't get to start until a few weeks into the season).

He led the league in passes defensed, was second in INTs, forced three fumbles, scored two touchdowns, and picked up a sack in probably the only time he rushed the QB. Waiting on the FO game-charting data for this year to see where he ranks, but...

He was named to the 2011 All-Rookie team by FO after defending 19 passes in a little over half a season as a starter (best among rookies last year), ranking 4th in the NFL in success rate against...yet most of the media still didn't seem to know who he was until he trolled Tom Brady. If they got their heads out of QBs asses long enough to look at the rest of the league, then they'd have known Sherman was probably the best at his position in the league.

I dunno, Williams comes up and tells him he's going to punch him in the face. Sherman doesn't back down from anyone or anything. It seems to be his go-to when people tell him "I'm gonna..." He says it to the ref who is telling him he's going to flag him if he does something earlier in the game, too.

I love it.

So as long as its on your team being a dick is OK? That's a cop out, a friend moved down from Detroit and since Suh has been pulling his shiat he refuses to root or buy their gear.

I've always been against CBs like this ever since one popped me underneath the chin strap after my QB threw an int and I gave up and was watching the play 30 yds downfield. I'm biased against the type because its so effective and completely within the boundaries of the game. I should really learn to respect it. Following Woodson helps a little.

/Courtland is still the biatch who got owned by Johnson to me, but still he found a way to get the best receiver off the field.

Williams initially says something along the lines of
"watch your mouf when you talk to me".

Hard to make out exactly, since the mic is not that close to him, but that starts the interaction. Obviously Sherman must have said something to him earlier on that Williams did not take kindly to. Like you said, that coupled with his season ending he didn't take it too well.

Again, my favorite play was where he was in coverage on a TE (forget what game it was), the QB broke the pocket and the guy was on the sideline, so Finnegan just shoved him out of bounds since you're allowed to make contact if the guy is out of the pocket. At that point, the receiver was ineligible, so he could then try to come up for the QB. TE was PISSED though.

Not to mention that he won the game against the Redskins by pissing Morgan off.

Which pretty much invites the "what you gon' do?" question.

Trent Williams felt the need to flex nuts, got called out on it, and then mushed a dude 150 lbs lighter than he is while Williams was still wearing his helmet. Pretty embarrassing look for Williams.

I'm told real football players don't need to do that cause they know they got em.

Anyways, favorite recent "smart" play was Randall Cobb on the kickoff return during the last Bears game. Ball was going to settle right beside the sideline so he straddled the line and picked it up in bounds. Penalty is called on the kicker instead of a shiatty return happening. Cobb (and the reemergence of Jones) is probably going to be the reason we don't resign Jennings, but I feel okay about it.

/why are we talking actual football and not RG3 or the Jets. there's like something wrong with us.

I agree, Williams definitely comes off as the jackass in that exchange. I will give him this though, even though it's against a guy he towers over. he did follow through with his threat and actually punch him in the mouth (or open hand slap, whatever).

Yup, I saw Leon Washington do that a few years ago and loved it. Always funny when the announcers don't know the rule and get upset at the decision at first.

I disagree. When a player with the classiness of Sherman invites you to pop him in the face, you do not turn it down.

Cobb's play on that kick was farking BRILLIANT.

I'd say release JaMoron, restructure Jones and Jordy, try to keep Jennings AND Cobb. Cobb is cheap for another 2 years (rookie contract).

Da football players go to college but why they don't learn no proper grammar? They on the field with their friends but they still talk like street. Why this be? I no understand. I confused. I think I make post about it. I outraged. Should always use proper English when trash talking.

I enjoyed the video because it is further evidence that Stanford is wildly overrated as an academic institution.

It's kind of funny how dumb people must be to actually think that trash talk has any bearing whatsoever on someone's intelligence.

Using it to jerk your own ego off is more sad than funny, however.

Lord knows I'm also always in constant need of validation in regards to my own intelligence, and cherry-picking a few sound bites from men who just played a physically and emotionally draining playoff game is a fantastic way to do so. Thank you; I feel so much better about myself now, and I should do this more often.

I was so confused when he did that as I'd never realized it was legal. Definitely took my respect up a notch. I really like players who use the rules in their favor, a la the Finnegan story from IAmRight. Not really a fan of Deion Sanders as a commentator, but i loved him as a player. My fave story was on some top ten show and Isaac Bruce said that Deion was covering him his rookie year. Between plays Deion tells Bruce that he needs to crouch more when coming out of his breaks so that it is harder to tell which way he is going to go. Bruce had 2 catches for 24 yds that game.

QFT. Sherman is on track, last I heard, for a masters from Stanford. If anything, we should be talking like him, not the other way around.

I work at Cornell and I play pickup basketball in the gym after work a few times per week to get some exercise in. You meet people on the court, and if you take the way they talk on the court, everyone seems kinda dumb. Then you talk to them between games and you find out, oh, that guy I was just fighting for position in the post with is getting his doctorate in molecular biology. Whoops.

My only wish for that exchange was that Red Bryant would have been there to balance things out a bit. I have noticed that, ever since the Cards game, the opposing teams have really worked hard at frustrating Seattle with cheap shots and punches and so on. Wonder if it is because Seattle is getting respect now?

/biggest example was Jeremy Lane getting steamrolled by an O-Lineman after the play was well over
//or an attempted blindside block after the play on one of the Seahawks D-lineman
