Jason Kidd is second on the all-time NBA assists list with 11,969.

No, Jason Kidd is second with 11969. Kobe Bryant is 38th, almost 1000 behind Stephon Marbury, who is 21st.

Yeah, but has he hit for the cycle?  Not many linebackers do that, but he has played in the NHL since he was 15.

Nash always has always been a great asset to each team he has played for, Kidd as well. However if it wasn't for "Kobe-like" players, they wouldn't have so many assists.

He does have the 5582 assists, which is good for third all time among Lakers. Magic is #1 with 10,141.

He then apologized after the game for passing the ball so much.

I'm so glad Nash got out of the cesspool known as the Phoenix Suns.

The fact that he ended up in the cesspool known as the LA Lakers makes me sad.

My only hope for him is that he leads the LA Lakers to the playoffs and finally wins his ringy ding ding.

Unfortunately, his efforts will be derailed by his teammates, just like they were on the Phoenix Suns.

Can we just take a moment to say what a basketball god John Stockton was?

I mean, as a Spurs fan I hated the guy, but not only is he an insane amount of assists above everybody on the all-time list, he also holds the record for all-time steals and is more than 600 more than 2nd place (Jason Kidd).

I actually ran into him a couple weeks ago back visiting family in Spokane. I knew he still lived there and had lived there five years without ever running into him. Then I take my parents to a local burger joint (D.Lish's if you've ever been to Spokane) and there he is with his family. I didn't go up and say hi or anything though, since he was with his whole family and eating and such.

Did he trip you with a low screen as you walked by?

Dude was one of the most efficient players in NBA history.  His TS% was .608, which is damn good for a guard.  He was impossible to defend, in his own way.  Play him close and he'll shed you with a screen.  Play him soft and he'll shoot a jumper with deadly accuracy.  Double him and he'll find the open man.  He's so known for his assists that I've even seen good defensive teams forget about him after he passes inside, thinking his job is done, only to get burned by a baseline layup.  He's not afraid of scoring; he just thought of basketball in terms of possessions and decisions instead of attempts and buckets.  He didn't have the athleticism of Michael Jordan, but his WS is almost the same because he never wasted a possession.  I soured on Karl Malone's off-the-court douchebaggery, but John Stockton was the one guy I wanted to see win a ring for Utah.

Yes, and thank you for bringing this to the attention to the younger generation of hoops fans. When Stockton's final contract was up, how did he renegotiate it? He and the owner negotiated without some scumbag agent. However this is a time when players did go to college and had degrees, so they had the ability to add and subtract. Also, the Jazz have always treated their players fairly, and John Stockton ate 3 million on his final contract which allowed Utah to stay under the cap. I was unable to see Pistol Pete play, and all the other "greats" he would compared to, but Stockton played in 2 decades that included the best players of all time.

You forgot to mention that he is also the all-time leader in off-the-ball cheap shots.

I think that honor would go to Bruce Bowen. But yeah, Stockton had his moments.

U MAD, umad?  Dirty is dirty, but I always found it amusing that his critics would whine about cheap shots by a 6'1" point guard -- especially when the paint game is an effin' mosh pit.  These are 6'8-7'2", 240-280 pound giants scratching and hacking at each other like girls in a catfight.  I see pawing & clawing on almost every play that isn't a fast break -- and even a few that are.  Since I first noticed it I have developed more respect for players who score in the paint (and understand why even big guys want to take jump shots), but if that's the NBA, then I guess it's just normal that everyone does it, right?

Oh, I guess not.  See, John Stockton. . . John Stockton is a dirty player.  Uh-huh.  Man up, nancy boys.  Sure the dude was "dirty", but for twenty years he was also repeatedly clobbered by guys who outweighed him by 50-100 pounds and kept coming back for more.  What was he supposed to do, be your biatch?

You would maybe have a point if his dirty shiat was all happening in the paint and being done to centers. It wasn't. Being undersized is no excuse for possibly wrecking somebody else's career either.

The guy is a scumbag, period.
