Fabric_Man: Weaver95: I wonder what charge they arrested him on?  or do we just throw people in jail now no matter what and make shiat up later to charge them with...?

Trespassing. A classic. A law most people break daily without realizing it, thus giving the City's Finest wide discretion on who to arrest. Not enough for jail, but it puts a lovely arrest on your record.

No you can not trespass in the ocean.

NJ amd NY should raise their electricity and gas taxes by like 35%. In a year or two they can build another crappy seashore amusements and guido bars.

If he wants to risk his life in stupid stunts to get on TV there are plenty of other things he can do where he wouldn't be risking emergency service personnels lives to do so.

Whodat: Sandy was a Cat 1 hurricane.

Yes and no.  At landfall, yes.  But shortly before landfall it was a Cat 2.  So the storm surge it churned up and pushed into the shore retained all the energy of a cat 2.

Also, the storm was farking enormous.  The amount of energy generated by this storm that pounded the coast from Maine to the Carolinas was unlike anything in any of our lifetimes.  And yet the categorization of this storm puts it just above a tropical storm.

If anything, Sandy was a shining example of why we need to scrap the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Yes. Seaside heights is the armpit of the Jersey shore. Most of us that are Jersey shore natives tell people who are unfamiliar with the area that we are not like the trash they see on TV. Only seaside would allow that trash network MTV to tape there. Seaside will hopefully rebuild to be less of a shiat hole.

Unless he got in a boat from a public dock he would have to get on that thing by walking over an area of land which is most likely private property. If he didn't have permission to be in that area it would be trespassing.

My dad once walked across a frozen pond in Queens. Just to see if it could be done, mind. On a date. With the woman who would turn out to be my mother.

Waiting for him on the other side was a cop and a trespassing ticket. No arrest, because NY cops apparently had better things to do in the late 1960s.

// cool story, dad

Your dad is one lucky sonofabiatch. Then again, I don't know the depth of the pond (in other words, was it frozen all the way through).
Do you think if he had fallen through, his date (your mom) and/or the cop would have pulled him out?

I doubt it was anything too deep for him to stand (he's a shade under 6'). By his reckoning, the weather had been cold (below freezing) for a while before his intrepid saunter.

Funny story: I didn't know this when, on a walk with my little brother in my early teens, I did the same thing. Different pond, same result.

// don't know about the one in Queens, but the one I traversed (shortly after the blizzard of '96 hit) was 100% manmade, about 18-24" deep
// mom may have been more spry in her youth, so it's possible she could pull him out
// I'd wager the cop'd have to have done it

Shore recovery? Seems to me that the ocean already recoverred what it wanted. If it is underwater let it go man. Same for New Orleans.

Good luck. My hometown was destroyed by Hurricane Charley. When the rebuilding started, many people were excited about all the "improvements" that could be made. After eight years of constant city council bickering and the old farts that didn't want "their town" changed, Port Charlotte looks the same. The only difference is that there are fewer buildings and the rubble has been cleared.
I believe Port Charlotte is an even bigger shiathole now. All the meth labs just moved into the abandoned homes and buildings. I'm just glad I don't live there anymore.

Trespassing I would imagine. Though I'm not familiar with the area so I'm not sure if Seaside Heights is private property or not.

Private property tends to go to the low tide mark. Looks to me like he was trespassing in the ocean...sort of diving a wreck without SCUBA gear.

cantsleep: C'Mon Weaver, you know good and well that there are probably areas all over that disaster area that are off limits. He place himself and rescue workers in danger.

I don't understand why it's against the law to place yourself in danger. Are you going to go arrest every mountain climber or NASCAR driver in the country? This guy climbs trees for a living, you think climbing a roller coaster is any more dangerous than a tree?

I'm sure he wasn't asking anybody to "rescue" him, as it's stated he intended to stay up there for days before the Nancy Patrol came along and arrested him.

public beach, for one. Two, after almost three months, can't we consider it abandoned goods?

Is it trespassing if i climb onto a burned-out car that has been sitting on a public street for weeks?

I have been handcuffed only 1 time in my life (that wasn't recreational)..I was hauled in, questioned for 2-3 hours and then released and driven back to my house.

Good thing we're talking about New Jersey this time, where the politicians will make clear-eyed decisions about land use and would never put their self-interest and turf above that of the citizens they serve, spending every dollar wisely and without waste, fraud, graft, bribery, kickbacks, Mafia palm-greasing, no-show jobs, shakedowns, slush funds, bribery, corruption, bribery, bribery, bribery, baked beans and bribery.

It's all downhill from here?

You can't leave me hanging like this, subby.

And up and down ride on a wrecked roller coaster thats underwater

Rollar coasters are a highspeed ride with a lots of peaks, vallys, sharp turns, and the ride is over far too fast for how long you had to stand in line.
It's wrecked, so thats your decayed infrastructure.

It's underwater, so that's your crippling debt.

But on top of it waves an american flag

And we arrested the guy who put the flag up there

2013-01-09 10:01:03 AM
If the Poeples Republic of New Jersey were in the United States I would be outraged by this. Since it hasn't been in a very very long time I see no problem with this, except for the fact that the police would be in a world of hurt if it was any flag BUT an American flag (or a Gadsden flag).

I spent 5 awful years living about 20 minutes from Seaside Heights.  I can confirm.  It's doucebaggy with a side of herpes during the summer and a frozen hell during the winter.  I'd rather live between Al Roker's butt cheeks than spend another day by the Jersey shore.
