She also has, frankly, an auspicious rack.

Unfortunately, the military seems intent on driving religion out and replacing it with wacky substitutes," he continued. "They've added atheist chaplains, Wiccan worship centers, and now, meditation classes. But none of them are as effective or as constructive as a personal relationship with God. Unfortunately, though, it's mind over what matters-and that's faith."

A military that's responsive to the diversity of its members?  OH THE HORROR!

Maybe we should force them all to be Christian.  History has shown us that always works well.

He's just another close-minded, fear-mongering Christian talking head. Move along, farkers, there's nothing to see here. Acknowledging his idiotic position only makes it worse.

They think that the inherent meditative qualities of it are satanic because they derive from Hindu
teachings rather than from the writings of Jesus' stenographers.

I'm sure they get all excorcised about Krav Maga, too.

It's popular.  People do it.  And, Jesus has nothing to do with it.

If it's not "All Jesus, All the Time," Christians will be up in arms about it.

I thought Yoga was made up by British fitness enthusiasts during the 19th century.

"As part some new training, Marines are being asked to join weekly yoga and meditation classes,"

I remember a particularly shapely corporal who drug everybody in our section to aerobics classes once a week for PT. She then proceeded over the next hour to grind every single one of into dust. We had guys who could max out the physical fitness tests - one of them could run four minute miles back to back to back - yet she was the only one who could ever make it past the half-hour mark of that class without stopping.

I'm sure this guy would have been just as much against the troops being required to do something 'girlie' like aerobics instead of lifting weights or running the obstacle course.

But you repeat yourself...

I really don't see how this is a problem. I remember the article a couple weeks ago about Christian parents getting all pissy about Yoga in Phys Ed. Yoga is not intrinsically spiritual. Sure the Neo new age hippies and crystal worshiping dullards love them some Yoga but in the end its a stretching regiment.

The problem people should have is that Yoga doesn't work. Stretching for longer durations of time does nothing compared to a simple standard stretch.

But none of them are as effective or as constructive as a personal relationship with God.

If it's personal, then people have personally decided they don't want a relationship god, and the military had fark all to do with it.

Sounds like Tony Perkins should start an effort to get Christian chaplains into the military.

I'm sure that Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, is deeply concerned about the well being of the US military.

Some yoga might have been helpful in preventing the back injuries I suffered while in the Army. Maybe if they had one day a week devoted only to stretching and yoga like exercise rather than 10 half-assed minutes of stretching, they could have prevented some injuries.
But the Army as a whole is pretty dumb. What starts as a good idea, in this case alternative kinds of PT, will end up with teaching to the PT test. Command was never able to put together why PT scores would go up on deployment. They couldn't get that lifting weights made you stronger and that it affected all areas of physical fitness. It's also something the troops want to do. But once in garrison it was time for push-up pyramids and rocky sit-ups. Never mind that it bores the Soldiers so they try and weasel out of PT, but it doesn't actually translate into better PT test scores.

You know...not that I'd ever advocate such a thing, but if someone walked into the Family Research Council office, grabbed Tony Perkins and Bryan Fischer, and tarred and feathered them both, I'd probably find that amusing. Worthy of a guffaw, if you will.

Then he should come up with his own exercise program revolving around Christians. He could call it Angel Aerobics.

One class could consist of dragging a cross around for thirty minutes, another could be step exercises using a burning bush instead of steps.
