Why does Rob Parker hate his job?

Every time I see this guy in a headline, I'm thinking "Wasn't he replaced by the Sklar Brothers?"

What the fark is "the Grio"?

Hmm let's see how has RGIII "pushed away" finished High School in 3 years, finished college in 3 years, working on a Masters degree, acts/speaks/works as if it's a team sport and it takes a team to win a game.

All of these things are "not black." He should be avoiding education at all costs, spending his money on crazy expensive things that lose value quickly, and dividing the locker room between the "brothers" that idolize him and the "crackas" that hate him because he's black.

God forbid he look past his color and see himself as "human" and act accordingly.

Another black guy that thinks he owns the copyright to his race.

I can see how Rob Parker would be saying that. Clearly, he's scared of an intelligent black man.

Didn't Parker's original comments refer to RG3 being engaged to a white woman and having "Republican leanings"? Y'know, not all of that shiat you just said about black people being happily dumb and selfish?

PowerSlacker: Why does Rob Parker hate his job?

Maybe he's exhausted by the grueling ESPN schedule every year: Talk about Tebow, talk about 'Bama, talk about the Yankees/Sox, talk about Duke, talk about Tebow, talk about 'Bama...

Parker said his 'cornball brother' comments were taken out of context and admits he was "shocked" it received national attention

Yeah, apparently nowadays, black people are sensitive about being called Uncle Toms. Who knew?

That's fine Rob, us crackers will gladly claim RG3 as one of our own. And you can go ahead and take Tiger Woods back now that he lost his mojo.

So hating someone because he loves someone not of his race and has political views not like yours is not "happily dumb and selfish" how?

It's funny when whites wanted to forbid interracial marriage it was racist, now it's being "not black enough". Awesome distance we've come.

Black people fought hard for equality and integration so that they could be a seperate, self segregating culture. Thats some fine logic there.

I'd imagine it would be something like if Skip Bayless questioned Chris Kluwe's straightness. Not out of the realm of possibility.

To be fair, it's not like white culture welcomed black people with open arms when they fought for equality and integration. There's a reason there's no social epidemic called White Welcome Wagon.

Rob Parker was a fill-in evening sports reporter for a Detroit station one night last week, it was surprisingly bad for someone with so much TV experience. All that was missing was "boom goes the dynamite."

No, Parker is an idiot, but not for the strange reasons you put forth in your original comment. His "cornball brother" statements were in reference to Griffin's fiancé and perceived political leanings. I'm not sure where you got the selfish/intentionally dumb theory you originally stated.

"It's more about this thing that we've battled for years and why people have pushed away from their people. It's more about that."

So who gets to judge what is "pushing away from their people" and what is not? If RG3 wants to be "a QB" and not "a black QB", is that pushing away - wanting to be seen not as an "athlete of color", but as "an athlete"? What if he doesn't want to be the latest screen upon which every journalist of color projects their own failed attempts at sports (or projects their kid's future), or doesn't want to be the latest sociological phenomenon ("Is the DC area ready for a non-SB-winning black QB?" "Is RG3 doing enough to combat hunger in Africa?" "Is RG3's blackness infuriating ShanahanalamadamI'madamacadam?" "Is the decision to start Kirk Cousins this week motivated by Shany's racism?") - what if he wants to play football and leave the racial passion plays to other people?

Basically, Rob Parker - what the fark gives you the right to impute your own racial views onto Bobby Three Sticks? What gives you the right to inquire whether RG3 is black enough or "sincerely black" enough? Who cares if he marries a white woman, eats ham-n-cheese on white bread with mayo, talks like Dave Chappelle's imitation of a white man, and plays golf in his spare time? Can Emperor of Black People Rob Parker publish a list of "things that prevent the 'cornballing' of a brother", or is that giving the white man too much info?

Subby: "Apparently ESPN reinstated Rob Parker"

Sunday morning, hours before the Redskins playoff game, the suspended ESPN host talked exclusively with WDIV-TV's Devin Scillian on the station's weekly community affairs program 'Flashpoint.'
Apparently not.

First of all, the comments were not made on ESPN and they don't mean he's been reinstated.

Secondly, his most recent comments weren't all that inflammatory. RGIII said "you don't ever want to be defined by the color of your skin. You want to be defined by the work ethic and your personality. That's what I strive to do."

Which, hey, it's a lovely sentiment. But the fact is that he is going to be defined by all three, just as every person in America is. So the question, for some people, is why does Griffin feel like being defined as black is something that he needs to shy away from? Why are black quarterbacks regularly only compared to other black quarterbacks? Why do we insist upon asking black quarterbacks about their blackness? Why is this even an acceptable question?

It's not just Rob Parker questioning his blackness that's offensive, it's routine journalists that will only compare RGIII (and every other black quarterback) to Michael Vick, Warren Moon, Cam Newton, etc. It's the fact that the questions about their race do routinely come up in regular interviews. Remember, the comments Parker was discussing came from a regular press conference.

Why, when we're discussing a game, should RGIII be asked any question that results in that answer? ("you don't ever want to be defined by the color of your skin. You want to be defined by the work ethic and your personality. That's what I strive to do.")

This is the other thing. White people playing the racism card against anyone they can. In fairness, zero white people would ever raise an objection to a black person acting "not black enough."

In conversation last night, I referred to Johnny Manziel as "the white Michael Vick, only he can throw." Also, I have heard RG3 compared to Steve Young on more than one occasion (usually during broadcast of a Skins game).

I don't know what that means, but getting journalists in general to stop hyperventilating about race would be a good start.

The problem though is that ESPN is not about journalism, ESPN is about entertainment. And race comments ALWAYS get you tons of free publicity, millions of clicks, lots of people watching your stupid video.

One day, people are going to realize that ESPN is not in the journalism industry, and they'll stop getting outraged at staged sh*t. Given how much people buy into "reality" shows, however, I'm guessing that time isn't anywhere in the near future.

True, but at least he brought it up. Yet nobody wants to address the actual issue. It's easier to condemn him than to talk about it, because anybody that talks about it is automatically labeled "Racist", on both sides.
