It's been really bad in my neck of the woods. My company has decreed that if you have any slight symptom don't you dare come to the office to infect anyone else, and I've not gone out besides work. Friends have had it, or have kids in pre-school/kindergarten... fark that. I've got shiat to do.

Apparently most of the people in that thread got their dumbass shots this fall...

This flu season is slowly transitioning from "Look at all those paranoids" to "I should probably start calling around to see if I can get a flu shot"

Uhh, I don't have the pic anymore, but quarantine tents come out any time there's threat of pandemic.  My wife rode shotgun while I was on a call out to Legacy Emanuel Hospital during the H1N1 outbreak, and she took all kinds of pics of the "zombie holocaust" tents.

Every hospital had them.

I don't give one flying fark about the zombie apocalypse. But if we get a repeat of the 1918 flu epidemic ever again, we'll be in deep shiat.

When I was in the army, we did a fair amount of training that included using tents like those.  For those scenarios, we were mostly training for mass casualty situations in the event of a chemical or biological attack.

GET A FLU SHOT - GET A FLU SHOT - GET A FLU SHOT -

Today is my first day fully coherent since before New Years Eve.  I don't drink.
Tamiflu is $15 a pill and you're sold 10 of 'em and psssst - it doesn't do that much.   I suspect fraud.
I haven't had the flu in a very long time 15 - 20 years.   I could not fend for myself this time.  I've lost 3 whole days somewhere in there.

Get a flu shot -  yes even now- go today - go now- leave work and get one.

I'm allergic to flu shots. It sucks. So I just wash my hands OCD style, take tons of echinacea and vitamins during the season and stay away from things like kids with gooey hands.

Egg allergy?  They're making flu vaccines that aren't made in eggs, but you'd probably have to ask your doctor to specifically source it; no clue whether the local Walgreen's/CVS/etc. clinic is that careful.

Avoid touching your face and gargle twice a day (last from a study of cold/flu transmisson among Japanese school children -- lower rates for among those who gargled 2x/day -- falls into the category of couldn't hurt/might help)

My household got this thing back in November. It is one of the most wicked illnesses I have ever had, way worse than West Nile. The hallucinations and complete time dilation are scary. We would have gone to the hospital but could not get ourselves together enough to make it outside. I was badly sick for over 2 weeks and really only started feeling normal around Christmas.

This. I never got a flu shot and haven't had the flu in 20 years, but I got sick this year. 4 days in and I'm just starting to feel better. Several sick colleagues, sick girlfriend, sick roommate. It's a bad one this year.

Nope. I'm horribly allergic to anything in the Mycins family, to which the flu shot has ~3 mycins/myxins. Become violently ill for days on end, it has put me in the hospital before.

Hells yeah I'll try gargling, thanks for the suggestion!
(already try to avoid touching my face, but I read Fark, there's a lot of facepalming going on so I just try to wash my face more often than normal)

Flu shots bad. Hand Sanitizer overuse, worse. Anti bacterial everything = you gonna die fool.

Go outside. Touch dirty stuff. Expose yourself to germs, its called building immunity.

You should still ask your doctor about the cell-based vaccines.  According to its manufacturers, flucelvax is made without antibiotics, menaing no mycins or myxins.  The prescribing information is here.
