Elvis' parents listened to The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Led Zepplin?

2013-01-08 08:59:13 AM
Came here to ask how Elvis was responsible for the bands his parents listened to, but i see SurfaceTension has already covered it.

2013-01-08 09:01:12 AM
My parents listened to Elvis, subby.  Beatles and Led Zep were just a teeny tiny bit after their time.

2013-01-08 09:07:45 AM
This was a masterstroke, subby. I'm only sorry it won't be on the main page, where it truly belongs.

I'm going to watch WAR GODS OF THE DEEP, which was showing on the Channel 7 4:30 MOVIE when
they broke in with the headline that Elvis had left the building.

I don't think Elvis himself was racist per se, but he was raised in Mississippi in the middle of the 20th
century and he may not have had a very enlightened view of people of other skin tones.

I think the point that PE was trying to make with the song (which is one of my favorites) is that Elvis
ripped off black artists without any attribution or overt credit being given.

2013-01-08 10:53:37 AM
Sorry. Elvis did not write songs like Stairway To Heaven, Kashmir, When The Levee Breaks and Ten Years Gone.

And The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin were never comfortable with large groups of big hairy uniformed police officers always around them, much
less so many men hanging around at all hours. Who knows what kind of flippy-floppy was going on? Lucky bastard.

i believe this is his mane gripe. still, it's not quite as bad as jimmy page ripping off willie dixon and his brethren so brazenly.

Big, hairy, uniformed what?  What are you referring to?

Police officers. Cops. God's angels. Elvis had them at close hand everywhere he went. NTTAWWT

That is clue #1. Ask yourself why was the president of his fan club kept from viewing the body closely like others?

It's one of my favorites as well, but that complaint is rather petty though I understand it was couched in late 80s rage.

What was he supposed to do?  Take out an editorial thanking black people for making him perform songs that other people wrote that were similar to the type of music not exclusively performed by blacks?

I get the vague complaint, but it's something a twenty-something in the 80s would find insightful.  I thought it was awesome in 1990 when I was 14.  Now it just sounds silly.

Are you suggesting he had a 'thing' for male law enforcement officers?

The Stones, Beatles asnd Zeplin were more heavily influenced by Elvis' predecessors so, no. So called 'Race' music was crossing over into white culture with or without him. If it weren't him it would have been someone else.

Why not? Just because he was married and had a kid doesn't mean he wasn't guessing some weight on the side. And who better to keep official secrets than uniformed officers?

Because he stole black people's music and made more money off of it than they did .

Kinda like Eminem.

I get so confused as to who stole what from whom.

Little Richard, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Pinetop Smith, Mozart, Beethoven, that Neanderthal in Cave 17...

There's some good potential here:

I was talking about the 4-4 "oontz-oontz" style of predictable beats and backing vocals.  Back in 1998 you heard the same thing while frying on shiatty X sold to you by a skeezy Belgian in sweaty Ibiza club filled with shirtless Russians.

oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz (song raises octave) oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz  (song lowers octave) oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz-oontz (the drop) OONTZ-OONTZ-OONTZ-OONTZ
