It's called the expiration of the FICA tax cuts. We're going from 4.2% to 6.2%.

2013-01-08 07:28:00 AM
Most of this stems from the expiration of the so-called payroll tax holiday.

So, restoring the payroll tax to where it was two years ago counts as a huge tax increase on the middle class, eh Subby? Does taking a dump count as losing weight to you as well? Because that's what you just did with your headline.

I. Do not. Farking. Care.

You can't keep cutting shiat forever to placate idiots who don't want to pay for anything they currently or will eventually consume. You'd have to be as ignorant as.... well.... a Newsmax reader to think otherwise.

And, no, I'm not the least bit outraged that I have to pay taxes to help people pay for food, clothing and medicine. It's called living in a society. Frankly, at this point, I feel like maybe some of you don't really want that so I invite you to GTFO and go live on a wilderness island somewhere by yourselves. We don't need you and we don't want you here anymore so feel free to just leave if it's so terrible for you here.

Just because you are paying more in taxes doesnt mean your taxes went up.
How stupid can you be?

2013-01-08 08:40:08 AM
I agree. Any tax increase on the middle class right now is counterproductive. So, why'd the Republicans kill it?

2013-01-08 08:40:39 AM
Why didn't my tax cutting saviors on the righ tpush for an extension of the payroll tax holiday? They let taxes go up on the rich too. The GOP makes me sick. Tax and spend, right guys?

2013-01-08 08:41:37 AM
I'm already seeing posts on FB saying this same thing: "See, we told you the liberals would raise taxes on the middle class, derp derp derp!"

Seeing as how the payroll tax break was going to lapse with or without the fiscal cliff scenario, and no one was talking about the payroll tax when discussing tax increases in the first place, the FB derp just clarifies who are the far right nutcases and who aren't.

Dear Rich People,

If you like a Navy to protect the seas as you ship lead-tainted children's toys to US markets, STFU.

If you like roads...

I am just so sick of the un-American asshats. The faster their old, retarded racist base dies off, the better for the whole world.

Just... wow.

You can literally kill schoolchildren and conservatives will want to change the subject as fast as they can. But allow tax rates to go up a tiny bit and they stomp their feet and gnash their teeth and scream at the top of their lungs about the outrage.

Screw you, conservatives. All of you.

It isn't. It's just going back to the normal rate that its been at for like a decade or two. The payroll tax holiday was a temporary decrease that just expired, not an increase.

What's frustrating is that in a properly negotiated settlement the FICA tax cuts could have been extended; but repub intransigence ensured that the fiscal cliff negotiations were held in the most panicky and ill-considered way possible and that just the bare bones of an agreement were rammed through in time to avoid the deadline. I suppose in a certain sense it is Obama's fault that he didn't hold the repubs' feet to the fire to get what he wanted. Given what's coming next, Obama needs to put together a series of base closings and defense cuts and program cancellations specifically targeted against repub districts so he can say "Oh, you're going to hold the American economy hostage to get what you want? Kiss your pork, your constituents' jobs, and your re-election prospects goodbye."

Well technically the Bush tax cuts were a temporary decrease. Had we allowed them to lapse we could have said the same thing.

I was accused of having circular logic by a hardcore R on FB the other day. I told her I don't consider it a tax increase in the same way that when BJ's drops the price of the 47" TV from $ 700 to $ 500 on Black Friday and returns the price to $ 700 on Saturday that is not a price increase.

2013-01-08 08:58:57 AM
The GOP shiat on the payroll tax when Obama did it saying he was buying votes. Fark them and the horse they rode in on.

2013-01-08 08:59:03 AM
Wait, so payroll taxes count as taxes now?  Funny, I remember not too long ago, Romney and the rest of the GOP were talking about the 47 percent who pay no Federal income taxes, completely (and conveniently) ignoring that those folks pay plenty of other taxes, including payroll taxes.

2013-01-08 08:59:09 AM
Analogy,

Your favorite breakfast spot usually charges $5.99 for the number 6 (3 eggs with bacon/sausage and pancakes breakfast.)

During the month of February, they have a "special" on the number 6 and it's now only $4.99.

At the end of the month, the special expires and price goes back to the standard $5.99.

Did the restaurant raise the price on their number 6?

2013-01-08 08:59:11 AM
Wait.... I thought we weren't supposed to include FICA when talking about federal income taxes. Since, you know, it's unfair to talk about the fact that poor people have to pay it and we know poor people are moochers.

So NOW we're including FICA in what counts as a federal tax increase?

Could you asinine farktards please settle on a consistent standard for your biatching?

But because we use different words to explain the difference in how much money you have at the end of the day, it's all okay. You see, the bottom line doesn't count. What counts in semantics. And the sooner you grasp how important semantics are to understanding why you have less money in your pocket, the more blissfully happy you will be."

And there is absolutely no reason why in their round of talks they could not have included another extension of the tax holiday for those making less than $250k. Instead, they allowed taxes to go up for a majority of the middle class.

No. More like:

Your Employer: "We agreed that when you worked overtime you'd get time-and-a-half. And you've been working on a big project that required a lot of overtime, and we've payed you for that. But now your project is ending and you have no reason to get overtime pay, so now you return to your regular salary."

Fine.  No, it's not.  Payroll taxes are exactly where they were when he made that promise - 6.2%.  You know this, I know this, your dead pet squirrel knows this, but you think you can make a semantic argument and score some points.  Sadly, with the number of "concerned outraged future billionaires" in this country, you're probably right

Why would they do that? Their goal is to destroy the US Government so the Corporations can fill the vacuum. I've had conservatives acknowledge this and then blithely insist that corporate rule would at least be "freedom". Consistency has nothing to do with it. Chaos is what they want and their base helps give it to them every time.

They are terrorists.

When you go to the grocery store and see boneless chicken is on sale for 33% off the normal price, when the sale ends do you start biatching about how they jacked the price up after the rate you were happier with?

If you decided not to buy something from Best Buy when it was on sale, then went back a month later all set to purchase, only to find the sale had expired, do you complain to management about how the store is trying to rip you off with the 'new high price'?

Yeah, actually. I bet you do.

Or are you dishonestly changing your definition of federal taxes to fit your talking points?
