Why did Kentucky elect that dumbass to the senate? Oh wait, most Kentuckians are dumbasses.

Because the cloture rule isn't enough, let's start adding arbitrary Senate voting thresholds depending on the topic at hand.  Brilliant!

2013-01-08 08:24:06 AM
But in a roundabout way, said legislation IS related to guns, so presumably he would need a 2/3 majority to pass that.  It's only fair.

Your 2nd amendment is encroaching on my 1st amendment.

2013-01-08 08:59:39 AM
Because amending the Constitution is so easy as it is.  We do it all the time...like, every day if I recall correctly.

2013-01-08 09:00:42 AM
Oh, just for any old law?  I rescind my snark (partially).  Sleep deprived.  Cat's sick and kept me up all night.

It would be somewhat hilarious to see Republicans adding anti-gun amendments to bills just to raise the threshold for passing them so that they could then block the bill. It's like a filibuster except you have to deny your core values to play.

2013-01-08 09:12:40 AM
Somehow I get the feeling that Rand Paul would be the first to complain if someone decided to "exercise their Second Amendment rights," as the Teabaggers so lovingly refer to it, on the Republicans in Congress.

Well, yes... he is proposing a constitutional amendment, after all.

A sane compromise designed to close the loopholes crazy farks use to get military grade firearms and ammunition is what is needed. Instead lets have both sides go overboard with political posturing and get a horse shiat bill passed that only creates more bureaucracy without doing a damn thing to stop the next school shooter.

The gun rights advocates are doing themselves a huge favor in the court of public opinion by sending a man with severe mental illness on CNN to argue lucidly on their behalf.

2013-01-08 09:18:36 AM
in fairness, i think this is genetic.

the number of 'oh, and the supreme court can't rule on this law' addendum his father has added to bills is baffling.

the Pauls are kinda used to playing legislative Calvinball, so this really doesn't surprise.

The slippery slope fallacy was invented specifically to be wielded by gun nuts.

Did you ever notice that Rand Paul loves proposing bold legislation that has zero chance of going anywhere?

2013-01-08 09:20:04 AM
Although I am a Kentuckian, I take no responsibility for Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, or Drew Curtis.

P.S. It's probably an attempt to draw attention away from his son's drunken exploits.

Some of us didn't vote for either of them. We're not all dumbasses and I'm hoping we'll come to our senses and vote both of the shiat heads out in 2014 and 2016.

I like Alex Jones, but I agree he didn't win any converts with that interview (in fact he was supposed to have 3 segments but got kicked out after 2). He did however show that there are pissed off people out there who will not surrender their arms. Even Daily Kos came out afterwards and said that if they tried to go door to door people like him would start "hundreds of Wacos"

heap: the number of 'oh, and the supreme court can't rule on this law' addendum his father has added to bills is baffling.

I think that's a continuation of "Doctor" Paul's brilliant legal analysis that just because the Supreme Court ruled the ACA to be constitutional doesn't mean it's constitutional. The same way he thought just because some governing body didn't think he was fit to be a doctor didn't mean he wasn't a doctor. I await the Ron Paul Memorial My Son Is Super Awesome Overriding Everything Court of Law and Stuff.

Reid and then Sen. Obama disagree with you. Along with then Sen. Hillary Clinton. All of whom wanted to preserve the filibuster. An argument put forward was that eventually the Democrats would be a majority again and did you really want to give them that power.

Well, eventually the Republicans will be a majority again, possibly with a Republican President, we'll see how you feel about the tyranny of the minority then.

The content of a bill should have no bearing on the number of votes necessary to approve the bill.

Which is why (and correct me if I'm wrong) no one of any consequence is seriously proposing confiscating anybody's weapons.

2013-01-08 09:38:31 AM
They're suggesting the Feinstein law is the one that will pass?  Not a chance.  They'll go after extended clips and gun shows, while dropping in some watered-down regulations on assault rifles.  Trying to pass anything more would be a waste of time and energy.

That said, passing anything the NRA is so strongly against would be a huge blow to the gun lobby.

This article is full of DERP that I've been hearing lately. "Under one new "compromise" being floated on Capitol Hill, the Senate would change its rules so that it could pass a gun ban with only 50 votes"

I've heard other people say this as well.

No dumbasses, the senate is trying to change the rules so that all bills can be passed by 50 votes, just like its always been, this is NOT a gun ban issue whatsoever.

But RAND - I thought the Constitution was the perfect governing document!! What gives? Why do you want to change our perfect and holy script?

Lost Thought 00: What about pro-gun laws? What about a law that is both pro and anti guns at the same time?

If the McCain filibuster reform goes through:

"Firearms may now be concealed and carried though public parks as long as the carrier has a permit."

"I propose an amendment to the aforementioned bill that makes it unlawful for anybody carrying a firearm with a permit to be seen by any children under the age of 12 without a parent's or guardian's written consent."

"I would also like to propose an amendment that increases income taxes on gun owners who make less than 200k per year."

"Excuse me. Is this bill pro gun, or anti gun?"

"who cares, there's no way in HELL we're going to hold a vote on this biatch. FAAARK. THAAAAT."
