There seem to be a lot of African carriers that have abysmal safety records and only slightly worse maintenance programs, so much so that they've been blacklisted by the EU and can't fly there. Of course, that's racist.

Got a nice chuckle out of the juxtaposition - the "Air travel in 2012 was the safest since 1945" directly over a picture of a smoking, flaming wreckage.
