Wire theft really is probably the most despicable theft aside from... i dunno, graverobbing?
Knowingly costing someone thousands and thousands of dollars to replace the damage you inflict for a few hundred dollars of copper? WTF is wrong with people.

At least they only endangered Anchorman 2 and not something important.

It don't pass the smell test.

I've never been on a active set that wasn't seriously secured when it wasn't being used. Our intrepid thieves would have needed several hours and a couple of trucks to get that much wire.

They should probably find a safe house or relative close by. Lay low for awhile because they're probably wanted for grand larceny.

Weed? Crack? Surely you jest. Everyone knows that stealing copper for scrap value is the hallmark of your friendly neighborhood tweaker.

FTA : The burglary was one of several break-ins... in the Defoors Ferry Road area

Ahhh, the Defoors. One of the areas larger plantation operators in the mid 19th century. The street name is a reference to his second (and much wispier) son.

They stole 3 monster cables?

2013-01-07 09:36:32 PM
I lay down cable in the film industry.

Have lost more than a few pieces in ATL.

Memphis was the worst.

Once did a show where it was cheaper to leave all the cable to be stolen, than to hire the manpower to pick it up.

So is this really $300,000 worth of copper wiring, or the wiring + damage done to the building to remove the wire? Or is this cop math, where similarly 2 joints of weed = $10,000?

People who steal public works of art to scrap them.

People who steal works of art from cemeteries (there's a mausoleum in a cemetery here in Philly that's missing half a Tiffany window because some asshole stole it in the 1980s).

I don't know. Doesn't sound like this was an active set by the list of what was stolen. All that was stolen was the wire and 4 computers. You would think an active set would have a whole lot more to steal. This was probably rented out to be a set for some scenes in the movie, but wasn't being used or had been set up yet, so they didn't bother to go all out on securing it.

Round up thieves, especially metal thieves & those of the corporate variety, and drop them via parachute over Iran. If they make it home, they're home free until they steal again. Then it's a drop over Best Korea.

Why the hell is there $300k worth of wiring ON the Anchorman 2 set? Seriously, you could wire a Vegas hotel for that

This. I liken it to people who commit high speed chases. Intentionally driving recklessly to avoid capture while possibly killing innocent drivers in the process.

yeah, as a nearly decade long electrician, im guessing its a grossly inflated insurance number.

Not to say wire isn't expensive as hell but come on.

We have a saying in my country: The coyote of the desert likes to eat the heart of the young and the blood drips down to his children for breakfast, lunch and dinner and only the ribs will be broken...

The thief left behind the unmistakeable odor of Sex Panther.

Rustybumperjack: Great Odin's Raven!!!!

I don't get this. I've seen that expression -- "Great Odin's Raven!" -- a few times lately.
Odin had two ravens, Huginn and Muninn: Thought and Memory. Odin relied on both; IIRC, they were tied to his mental faculties (both were necessary in tandem) and also served as his proto-eyes in the skies of Midgard.

So by exclaiming "Great Odin's Raven!" you're basically cutting out half the mythos. WHICH raven? It's like swearing by an unnamed single Beatle or something. I don't know, it just sounds wrong. Just say "Great Odin's Ravens" and it'll all be well.

But look on the bright side; those thieves will have super clean electricity now, without any of the horrible interference you get from normal wires!

Trollin4colon I suppose, I just figured the $300k was the raw price of the wire itself.

people who steal tools. nothing I can think of right now tops robbing a person of their ability to earn a livelihood. while I don't support grave robbing, I don't rate it much higher than going through someone's garbage.

You have a really broad definition of "theft" to include home invasion in it.

No, no, no, Great Odin only had one raven. Tiny Odin had two. Popular misconception.
