worlddan: This is the best way...a woman should exercise control over her body by in all cases giving a man what he wants, when he wants it. This is the only way to end the war between the sexes, to bring peace and well-being to this earth. Let the lion lie down with the lamb in the lion's stomach, digesting. The woman should do what the man wants. Then there is no rape; then we are all one.

Your words are like the sweet songs of birds. Come to me now, and let us celebrate peace and understanding between the sexes. Just let me put my birth control in first, so that we do not cheapen our love with the tyranny of childbirth.

"She's as guilty as her rapists!" ~ Guru Asaram Bapu

If true, then she paid with her life, so the rapists should pay with their lives as well.

/Karma for the win.

The guru is right; I can't find any fault with his logic. If a woman wants sex then it is not rape. That's the real underlying problem here....who are these women who dare to refuse sex to men; they should be ashamed of themselves. Sex leads to procreation and procreation leads to more followers and more followers lead to bigger bank accounts for the guru. I call that doing it right.

Yes, when a man wants sex every woman should reach out and grab his hand and call him brother. Amen to that. Why should anyone be ashamed of incest? There are no sexual absolutes in this world; it's all relative. And let her not stop with her brother either, she should reach out her hand and call him father. Then the guru will come and join them in a holy trinity...father...brother...and sister. For is not the trinity a threesome?

This is the best way...a woman should exercise control over her body by in all cases giving a man what he wants, when he wants it. This is the only way to end the war between the sexes, to bring peace and well-being to this earth. Let the lion lie down with the lamb in the lion's stomach, digesting. The woman should do what the man wants. Then there is no rape; then we are all one.

Addressing his followers, Asaram said that when the girl encountered the six drunk men she should have taken God's name and could have held the hand of one of the men and said "I consider you as my brother"

Tell you what: When the Rape Van pulls up to your house you can give that line a spin and see how it goes. In the mean time shut your effin hole.

This, my dears, is the face of religion.  I'm not talking about half-assed, go-to-church-as-a-social-event, "Wellll, it may be what the Holy Book says but that's not really what it means" religion, I mean actual, practice-what-you-espouse religion.

Religion is bad, mmm-kay?

The My Little Pony Killer: meat0918: Is it that they don't think rape happens elsewhere?

It gives them the opportunity to pretend that rape doesn't happen in their own home countries and therefore makes them feel justified in railing against "savage" cultures.

In this thread you'll find people pointing out the similarities between home and what happened over there (religions, GOP, WBC). Literally nobody said rape doesn't happen where they live or called Indian culture "savage" (only the religion, but that was a statement about religion in general).

You are not very observant.

Newsflash:  violence against women IS a political subject!

And just like any  good politician, this guy has a PR aide (female, no less) telling the press that his remarks were taken out of context and digging his grave even deeper (or derper).

"An aide to Asaram sought to downplay the controversy over the remarks. Neelam Dubey said the remarks were made at a religious discourse in Delhi in the context of how one should invoke God's name to avoid incidents like crimes against women. Some reports said the event was held in Rajasthan.

"Dubey said Asaram was trying ta drive home the point that incidents like the gangrape of the girl could have been avoided by reciting mantras, by reciting names of Gods. "If she(victim) would have taken God's name or recited a mantra God inside her might have suggested her to how to avoid such crimes," she said, seeking to explain Asaram's remarks.

"He was giving that idea to his devotees. He was citing the gangrape incident to say one should use commonsense to avoid such incidents," she added.

because it's exciting to see change in action? because we still need to improve how we respond to rape and treat the victims and offenders? because we shouldn't have to teach our girls how to 'stay safe' but instead teach the boys how to behave properly? or maybe it's because so many politicians have ...very interesting ideas on what rape even is? i think showing how another part of the world is reacting in disgust and protest is great and might just maybe give certain people over here something to mull over.

i'm really curious why you asked this question. please tell me it's not because you're one of those 'it didn't happen in my town and i don't see how it affects me directly so i don't care' types?

You're right. If only gang rape is considered in the appropriate socio-religious context, it's no big deal.

I've long since given up wondering the same thing about stories in the U.S. when fully half the people commenting are from other nations. Even boring stories about internal U.S. policy or politics in one particular state draw an international audience for some reason.

Well, I'm one of your next door neighbours. Since I'm a bit of a history/politics junkie, I would challenge anyone to find better live entertainment than the utter lunacy that seems to be a mainstay of your domestic politics on a daily basis.

I guess you're upset that people would be concerned that something really bad happened to a brown skinned woman.

Nope, I already made my mea culpa elsewhere. My question was one from profound ignorance of what the hell was going on that could have been remedied by actually reading about the back story before posting a comment on this asshole.

Unfortunately, since you made the Weeners in the first dozen or so posts, you're going to get a lot of outrage replies from people who haven't read the rest of the thread. =/

I know. It'll be a good reminder to read more before posting and hopefully sound less like an intolerant jackass.

And its about freaking time too. The status of women in India is ghastly and religion is used there (as here and in the middle-east) as an excuse.

FWIW this guy is not a troll. Hes completely sincere and believes everything he says. Im glad he opened his fool mouth though. Time to get these absurd and deeply harmful beliefs out in the open where they can be properly ridiculed.

I've been more or less unplugged from the net and news for 2 weeks, and it just seemed odd to me that this was a national news story.
