Her towns aren't big enough for both of them?

Giffords should get out before sundown?

Is she a-callin' Gabby out?

Well, I'm going to donate to her opponent when she's up for re-election.

Uh, she does have personal reasons to support gun control but that doesn't mean she isn't politically posturing.

Giffords or Hovey?

My problem with Gabby is that she wasn't nearly this vocal about gun control until she was shot. It's like Christopher Reeve not caring about spinal injury research until he fell off a horse.

If you want to really impress me, get behind a cause before you get afflicted by that cause. I'm sorry about what happened to her but I don't respect her at all.

Giffords' continued existence is political posturing and forces those who are against any and all forms of gun control to confront the eventualities of what they support. She should really stop hurting their feelings and just cease to be.

It could just be that the politician has ADHD and can't sit long enough to hear Gabby try to belt out an entire paragraph.

Well, it was political posturing.

I think she was more offended by other state reps having political events in her territory without informing her than the visit itself, though, that does seem plausible that it would be common courtesy to invite the area's actual rep to any stump speeches you're making on her turf.

Now I have this image in my head of her pissing on bushes and telephone poles to mark her territory.

That may be the stupidest sentiment in the world. So basically you are saying life experiences shouldn't change your views on things.

I bet you have a lot of burnt fingers from touching the fire too many times.

The ultimate irony is that those who claim that others are "politicizing" events are, themselves, politicizing the same events. What they're really saying is "I'm wrong and my opposition is showing me how and why I'm wrong. That makes me feel bad and I want them to stop." That's why you see Fox News types and their mindless followers use that term a lot more than their liberal counterparts.

Right, because every person should know that they're going to be shot through the head. Just like everybody should know their kid will be born with Trisomy 13. Or give birth to a monumental clusterfark such as yourself.

So, someone undergoes an incredibly life changing experience and decides to upend all of their previous plans in order to live up to the altered moral perspective that their experience has opened up for them. And you don't respect that. Huh. You, by any chance, a born again christian?

The sound you heard was the sound of a political career ending.

2013-01-07 07:08:29 PM
Connecticut State Rep. DebraLee Hovey had a rather insensitive message for former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who visited Newtown after the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings: "Stay out of my towns!!"

I bet she ran other prostitutes off her corners too, very territorial prostitutes.

You can have my gun as soon as you give up your car you texting, make up applying, fiddling with the radio, lunch with your computer, road hogging, stop sign and red light running, speed demon: for you are responsible for far more deaths a year than I am.

I don't even own a gun but would like to see more enforcement of current laws. Then we'll work on the gun crisis our media has whipped up now that the election coverage has grown stale.

Yeah, I guess that's fair enough. I mean, it's still probably polite to let the local congressman know you're going to do a political event in their district, but I guess the obligation is less once you're retired.

//I assume you're responding to the second part of the post which you didn't quote, because if you're actually responding to the bit you quoted your response makes no farking sense. A political event is still a political event even if you're not a current officeholder.

Didn't she simply meet privately with the affected families? There was no public speech or anything. I don't even see how that would be considered a political event.

My wife, daughter, and I travel from southeast Pa to central NH each summer to visit my in-laws. They are summer-only residents and my wife and I decided to take our daughter up to their 'cottage' for the week between x-mas and new years. We have always stopped at exit 10 on Rt. 84 in CT because it is a good mid point, there is a diner and gas station right off the exit and there is a place to take my dogs out for short walks... it was only on the day after x-mas when we were half-way up to NH last week when I realized that Exit 10 on Rt 84 is the exit for Newtown/Sandy Hook.

Not a particularly CSB, but it was a bit shocking that we never really knew what that area was called in the 12 or so years we've been stopping there. We just knew it as the stop with that diner we love. They were erecting a memorial right across the street from the gas station where I fill up. I had felt very detached from the tragedy until that day.

Are people EVER going to let the people in that town go back to normal life?  It's an honest question. They're either being visited by famous people and lauded as heroes and survivors, or used as political pawns in the gun control debate, or being used as an example as to why guns should/shouldn't be in schools (guards, teachers, whatever).

The event itself surely screwed up the town. But what about in a few months when the famous soccer players, politicians, fundraisers (what, exactly, the money is being raised for, I'm not sure since money can't bring back the dead) all end?  Suddenly, they're not "special" anymore, but they also have to deal with (a) the initial tragedy and (b) the weirdness of just being another town.

Just something I was thinking about on my drive home from work today, brought back to the front of my brain by this article.
