" former South Carolina Gov."

That's as far as the NRO chose to delve into Sanford's history.

Fair and balanced!

How do conservative voters reconcile their 'family values' with regard to an admitted adulterer?

Also, submitter is awesome.

f#@k you, that's how.

Seriously, I love that he's already spoken out against gay marriage... because if there's anyone to lecture me on how offensive and invalid my relationship is, it's a guy who uses state funds to go cheat on his wife.

Everyone knows the answer to this one -- After one visit by the perpetrator to a Southern Baptist or white folks' Pentecostal church plus a little token tearful blubbering in front of the cameras, it's erased from memory.

I care less about the affair than the fact that he used public funds and resources to carry it out.

This is the kind of fiscal responsibility that Republicans want?

It's not even the values hypocrisy so much as he lied to his staff and his constituents about his official activities. Repeatedly. How the fark can you even show your face in public, let alone run for office again? I realize that the modern GOP/Tea Party has no capacity for shame, but good lord, how can you claim the moral high ground on anything if this guy is your representative?

Same as with Gingrich.

As long as the guy is white and says he's real sorry, that he's repented and sought good ol' buddy Christ for help - he's golden.

They say "well at least he admits it's wrong". Being a hypocrite makes it ok to them.

Mark Sanford is a member of The Family.

The Family believes its members are chosen by God to do great things.  So these moral lapses are to be forgiven, because He has greater plans for them.  It allows them to do all sorts of bad things.  Moral consistency is merely a quaint idea in their world.

While The Family and its henchmen were counseling Jenny Sanford to stay with that weak, pathetic POS, they were also arranging bribes to John Ensign's mistress and her husband, and setting up a little love shack for Chip Pickering.

Morals, like laws and taxes in their mind, are for the little people.

I'm not sure.  He wasn't mentioned much in my reading on them.  But it certainly would be consistent with their warped moral framework.

That affair should have torpedoed any chance for future public office. I guess we'll see what happens if he's successful in his congressional bid.

In today's society nothing matters except celebrity.

Mark Sanford is famous. Just like Kim Kardashian. It doesn't matter what he's famous for, or what his views are, or what he DID. In fact his affair probably has HELPED his political career by giving him publicity. Try and wrap your head around that.

If he's part of this powerful conglomeration of evangelical Republicans that have lots to gain with him in power, you can bet your sweet ass they'll try and push him through the primary where nothing matters except how much you'll "stick it to the libs." Then he'll handily win against any democrat in his red state because his affair won't be enough to cause moderate voters to switch.

Without knowing his primary opponents, i'd put his chances at higher than 50%

I voted for him because I thought a probably retarded, unemployed, living with his father, horndog whose method of 'breaking the ice' borders on criminal would probably be more responsible and honest than Jim DeMint.
