I didn't realize 7 year old girls were now in the tween demographic. Can't recall being obsessed with any celebrity at that age, at least ones that weren't animated mutants.

These days if you're eight and don't have kids you're considered a spinster.

I wonder what it's like to experience something like that. That was her clearly defined "moment of a lifetime".

Everything that follows is just a sullen denouement.

Hmm. And only 2 or 3 days after getting caught smoking a joint. Couldn't possibly be PR damage mitigation..

Hopefully she'll go on to live a long and amazing life. Graduate college, get married, have children and live a life full of moments that far surpass this one.

Millie's battling leukemia for the third time after a recent relapse, and from what I've heard, this really brightened her up and gave her a boost. I don't like Beiber's music, and I get that it's a PR thing for him, but good on him for doing it nonetheless.

/my friend is friends with Millie's mom, I follow Millie's story via FB updates

To be fair, with his fame and status finding good weed shouldn't be a problem.

What difference does it make if he gets a little damage control out of it? He lit up that little girl's life for a little while and maybe helped her not think about having cancer for a few minutes. That's good enough for me.

Except for the fact that he apparently does this all the time without any news coverage.

P.S. He's Canadian. We don't give a shiat if he smokes pot.

Good deeds are worth their own weight in gold, and don't need to be publicized. Postponing the concert and pretending not to care pretty much made it certain it would get publicity, and in the states the marijuana thing is still on shaky ground (translation: still needs damage control amongst the more traditional folks..)

So what if he smokes pot. Pot should be legal across all 50 states. Make up your mind people. Many of you say that it should be legal but when you see someone actually do it you get horrified. Why the squeamishness now?

Kaybeck: ParagonComplex: People hate on him, but he's a genuinely good kid from all that I've seen. He does tons of charity work with the stipulation that no media be allowed to attend. That's because he does it for all the right reasons. This was so sweet it brought a tear to my eye. Most of the people that hate him do so because they're jealous of him, and you know what, there really isn't anything wrong with that other than the pettiness of it all. I personally just hate his music. It's kind of like what the Christians say about sin. Hate the sin and not the sinner, and goodness knows his music is hellworthy.

Telling the media not to attend is part of the PR.

It isn't when they don't know about it to begin with. Have fun in your pessimistic life. Simply asking the family not to alert the media is different than the media knowing about it, and the family telling them to GTFO.

Atomic Spunk: A few years ago when Bieber was really starting to get really popular, my young daughter was a huge fan. We bought her Bieber CDs and my wife even took my daughter and her friend to his concert, which at the time was the highlight of her life. Sure, back then I wish my daughter had taken a liking to Miles Davis or the Pat Metheny Group, or any number of musical artists that I like, but you can't force kids to adopt your tastes. My daughter has since stopped listening to Bieber and now listens to J-Pop exclusively. J-Pop is just as irritating, if not more so, than Bieber's music. Seriously. That shiat makes my ears bleed.

Why hate bieber? Because he's a douchebag who only exists as a performer (read: not artist) because of autotune. You remember JTT? I do, and I'm glad he faded away. I hope Bieber OD's. Douche.

No, hate is not accurate, nor is jealousy. I simply find him offensively vanilla. Like that annoyingly upbeat kid in high school who tried to convince me that some Christian Rock band was way better than the Dead Kennedys. Except in the case of Bieber, the internet tries to make me constantly aware of his continued existence. His every bland, boring action making the news, no matter how inconsequential it is. He's not solely to blame of course. The media is at fault of course, as are his rabid, and stupid, fansm who are the reason the media pays so much attention to Bieber. But in the end, I have to take most of the blame in this, since I keep coming into these mother farking Justin Bieber threads.

Not exactly a fan, think he puts out bland, forgettable Canadian excuses for hip-hop, think he's got his head way too far to the playboy I-run-this-club end of things, but good on him here.

As for publicity... well, you really couldn't get away from having to provide some sort of explanation as to why your concert didn't start on time.

Fixed that for you, if it was Canadian all of his music must include the following in some form:
French
Hockey
Polar Bears
Poutine
Cultural Diversity
Maple Leafs
Plains of Abraham depending on which province you are from
Toronto (if you are from Toronto it will be favourably mentioned, anywhere else not so much)

I don't care if it was a PR stunt, a 7 year old with leukemia probably just had the happiest day of their life. If the kid lives to be 50, they may have better but if they don't I'm glad she got to have her one day. Facing your own potential death sucks (I'm having to have "the talk" with my mother who's in the hospital now) and it sucks. I can't imagine having to worry about having such a talk with a 7 year old.

All this is very accurate. Also, the retarded media logic that if a celebrity is insanely popular with one demographic (13 year old girls), that must mean every other demographic wants to hear about him too.

Sometimes I have to think that celebrity altruism only exists when you don't hear about it for months or years, that celebs who don't want the publicity try to hush it down. The most recent example I can think of was Christian Bale going to the hospital to visit the theater shooting victims despite protests from the film company. Pics were taken all around and it did get to the press - there's a tipster in every group - but it seemed like he didn't try to make a big deal about it and truly wanted to help.

Same with Pixar rushing that DVD of Up to the little girl's house a few years back so she could watch it, and died hours later. It speaks more to me when celebrity doesn't do it for press, even though their backers are hounding or chewing them out for missing out on tons of money for it.

I honestly can't think of any instances where you never heard of a celebrity good deed until long after, where it almost shocked people.

Actually it's "Stop trying to make adults care what we don't care about!". Bieber news belongs in Tiger Beat magazine and possibly MTV since I think only teenage girls watch that anymore, but that's about it.

Forgive us for expressing an opinion on music. Would you prefer that everyone just accepts your opinions as 'correct' and otherwise be silent?

You seem to be a bit protective of the Biebs ... you have a little crush??

Little girls aren't the Fark demographic, yet here's a story about him. Little girls aren't the target audience for CSI or whatever crime show he appeared on, yet there he was. I could go on except the main point is if he keeps getting shoved in the faces of people who have no reason to like him, he's going to get made fun of and ridiculed.
