Wait wait wait, Adam Schefter's methodology of pulling rumors out of his ass turned out to be wrong?!?!?!?!?!11

Even John Kerry thinks Chip Kelly is a waffle.

The only time I can remember sanctions being useful were the Penn State ones, the rest are just the NCAA trying to be holier than thou.

He should just go to the SEC where rules don't matter and his payroll would be tripled.

The PSU sanctions were completely the NCAA playing "holier than thou" and had nothing to do with ensuring fair play between colleges or protecting student athletes, which is what NCAA sanctions are supposed to be about.

I wonder what, if anything, will come down from the NCAA now. If he was smart, he would have jumped ship like Carrol, but if he's not, maybe he knows something that we don't -- like Nike was able to make the allegations "go away".

As a Boise State Fan - Whew. I think that this is about the only gig that Petersen would be really tempted to leave for.

And having Kelly stay around for the possible sanctions is kind of a stand-up thing to do. Not the biggest fan, but I'll tip my hat to that.

And he'd get an automatic berth in the BCS title game.

/playoffs coming soon anyway, though

Oregon wouldn't have made the four team playoff this year. Stanford would have gone ahead of them.

They let the SEC get away with it because in places like Alabama and Louisiana, they only thing good is football. Everything else is poor, fat and dumb

Peterson wouldn't have been offered the job. They went on record that they were promoting from within if Chip should go.

If there were a 4 team playoff this year, the "computers" would have figured out a way to have 3 SEC teams and Notre Dame. I don't have the slightest bit of confidence that the new playoff system will do anything except continue on with the embarrassing, corrupt, and fraudulent tradition of how college football chooses its champion.

They will have a selection committee. Sure there will be possibilities of corruption, but there's no way 3 SEC teams get in over one Pac-12 team this year.

Totally...because having a wealthy Alumnus who got his start at your institution give back is downright scandalous and dirty.

I don't get why everybody thinks this is some huge deal. He helps out a ton, but Oregon helped make him an Nike and there's nothing wrong with him giving back.

There's nothing wrong with Phil Knight.

He's the best owner in American sports and he's smart enough to know owning a college team is much better than owning a pro team.

Nothing except that Uncle Phil is a whiny cockbag who threatens to leave the state if he's asked to pay taxes. It's cool how tax breaks allow the wealthy to decide what to fund, unlike my tax dollars.

Criticizing the NCAA != supporting PSU

What NCAA violation did they commit in the Sandusky incident? Here's a hint: none. Did they violate the law? Show a disturbing lack of moral judgment? Abso farking lutely. But punishing that is law enforcement's jurisdiction. The NCAA doesn't get to make shiat up just because they feel the need to score some good PR.

/still think the civil suit is a bad idea PA

Yep. Perhaps it's like when Bill O'Brien interviewed with the Browns and realized that their post-season ban was longer than PSU's. Kelly probably realized that no sanctions could be as bad as coaching for Cleveland.

Well first off, people have been giving UO crap for Phil Knight long before any allegations came up. Secondly, that has nothing to do with Phil Knight.

This.

Why would any coach go to the Browns? "With years of work, and enough amazing trades and/or draft picks to beggar the imagination, you will have ... the Browns. And you have to live more than 3 days in Cleveland." Being told the NCAA is going to ban your team for 3 decades, execute your entire team, and then make you the official "toy" of Angola prison for the rest of your life wouldn't justify going to the Browns

2013-01-07 07:28:09 PM
I like Kelly but I do believe he wouldn't be returning if he didn't know a bowl ban isn't going to be part of the sanctions. They'll lose some scholarships and that's about it.

The worst was when I went to a Hurricanes game vs. NCST, these kids who probably got kicked out of Broward Community College were bragging about the fact that Oregon "stole" the hand signs from "The U".

Never mind that not a single one of these mid-thigh jorts-wearing gangbangers even sniffed a parking-lot attendant job at UM, they were convinced that Oregon actually owed them money for the "U" hand sign.

I love UM, but I will root for Oregon after that display of moron.
