Aidan: I've been keeping half an eye on various space developments, being Gen X and every so slightly geeky. It seems that we've got a lot of new stuff coming up but it's just not making enough noise to reach public conciousness levels yet. I really want a new national enthusiasm to get funding and interest back in space-related fields.So while I approve of NASA's wishful thinking, I suspect it's just that.
jayhawk88: A signal from space or definitive proof of past life on Mars is about the only thing that is going to get serious (positive) media traction at this point. Even a solid plan for a moon base would be met with more skepticism and "waste of money" BS than excitement.
