That's a good question.  Has she gone on record denying that people were killed there?  Or has she denied that Benghazi is in fact a real place in Libya?

telling the truth about what happened at Benghazi and our understanding of it over time. Anything that doesn't make it a scandal the republicans can punt is denial, duh.

That was some weaksauce, subby. Like, three Scolville units. If you feel like trolling (which is fine - I can respect a good troll), troll hard or go back to the minors.

Hello, I'm foreign.

Am I supposed to understand what was so outrageous about Benghazi? Because I'm having difficulty. Embassy was attacked, very unpleasant. No-one quite understood what was going on to begin with. Then they worked it out. Isn't that basically it?

2013-01-07 09:24:23 AM
Are republicans still pushing this? Because, you know, the election is over and Susan Rice is out. What else are they going to try to leverage this manufactured scandal against?

Personally, I used a sharpie to black out the spot where that place allegedly "was" on my globe. Its former existence was inconvenient to the new world order.

It's this or present new ideas. So, Benghazi it is.

Some people were killed.  In hindsight, some people probably should have made different decisions.  The right has been unsuccessfully trying to use it as a demonstrable failure of the Obama administration, but it's extremely lame and not sticking one bit.  Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I voted for Obama though I fancy myself an objective thinker, and I'm certainly willing to criticize Obama when I feel that he's in the wrong, however this is just NOTHING.  Absolutely not anything more than the tragic deaths of a few people in a fairly hostile war zone.

When thinking about American politics, it's helpful to think about the most irrationally angry person you know. Then picture that person as each and every Republican member of Congress.

Black guy was President when it happened. So it's worse than Hitler flying planes into the World Trade Center.

First.  You have to understand the context.  It was during a election against a contender with no foreign policy experience with an incumbent with a glowing foreign policy record.

Several diplomats were murdered in a dangerous part of the world and it was the worse scandal in the history of the universe because (see above).

/did I mention the incumbent was black, this makes scandal darker

Pretty much.

I'd much rather that the incident hadn't occurred , as it resulted in the deaths of the ambassador and several staff members, but I'm not really sure what the "ZOMG BENGHAZI!" frothing about is all about.

NeverDrunk23: 'Obama's not perfect, vote republican' apparently.

It isn't even that.  This really had nothing to do with Obama.  In retrospect, I'm sure a review of embassy security is in order, but all of the decisions that led up to this were made by lower ranking state department officials.  This really isn't even anything you can stick Hillary with.  If someone thinks they can "get" Obama with this, they'd have about as much luck trying to blame the Sandy Hook shootings on him, as he was POTUS at the time.

There are some people on the right that believe that (a) the military was given a stand-down order, which resulted in the four deaths and (b) Obama personally gave that order.

Don't worry, folks... The GOP and it's lackeys will have some other "scandal" that's definitely going to bring down the Obama Administration this time.

These people have no shame.

The irony is that they will use that crazy idea of Obama making a call to give him full blame of the situation like he himself caused it, while claiming that Obama deserves zero credit for bin Laden because all he did was give a call.

Yeah, we have time for this horse shiat after the GOP just finished whining over the Cliff and the Cliff deal.

Assholes.

I think a lot of the rank and file Republicans have already moved past Benghazi and their attention span is shot on it.

The days leading up to Petraeus testifying, I kept hearing from far right wingers at work on how it would blow the whole thing open and Obama was done with. Since then I haven't heard one of them mention it once.

And that pretty much sums up the sentiment of the right these days.  Obama is wrong, always, no matter what happens.  If he does something good, it wasn't him.  If something bad happens, it's always his fault.  Now to be fair, I've seen that sentiment before on the Bush hating club and the Clinton "OMG VINCE FOSTER!!!11" types, it's nothing new, but it does seem to be at a level never seen before.  The butthurt is just absolutely off the charts.

Mainly its because they don't have anything else. They can't stand up to him in the political arena, they can't win on the issues, and the whole birth certificate thing didn't pan out. Benghazi is all they have, so they're farking that chicken for all its worth.

That was the biggest part I think. This happened shortly after Romney's disastrous foreign policy trip to Europe and Israel and after Romney made an ass out of himself hours after the attack when he thought the US Embassy in Cairo apologized to the rioters.

This was meant to take Obama's stellar foreign policy record (at least it was until this but still not too bad) down a peg and it blew up in the GOP's face when Romney made himself look like an even bigger bumbling idiot in the debates when it came to foreign policy.

Reminds me of Stewart on TDS in his classic "Chaos on Bullshiat Mountain" bit back in September (I think) when he summed up the view of the right that "The biggest problem with the denizens of Bullshiat Mountain is they act like their shiat don't stink.  If they have success, they built it.  If they failed, the government ruined it for 'em.  If they get a break, they deserve it.  If you get a break, it's a handout and an entitlement.  It's a baffling, willfully blind cognitive dissonance "

Just like the Turks and the Armenian Genocide, Hillary REFUSES to acknowledge that she personally murdered 4 million ambassadors in an attempt to wrest power from Golgathog the Despoiler, Lord of Global Diplomacy before Putin brought about the Sundermacht.

It seems like the further along we are in Obama's presidency, the more petty the scandals get.

Pretty much, only with Clinton they had an actual crime.  Don't get me wrong, it was pretty much partisan BS with Clinton but at least Perjury is in fact a crime.  Even if Obama were incompetent and responsible for the deaths (which he is not) it still wouldn't likely be a crime.  To sum it up in 3 words:  They got nothing.

But my hazy memory says that they only found a crime (or rather created one by asking random personal sexual questions in a hearing) after years and years of hunting. It would be like asking Obama in a Benghazi hearing about Michelle's menstrual cycle, and being outraged if he's wrong. IMPEACH! IMPEACH!

Jesus, I can only imagine the carnage if an AC-130 started firing into a crowd in the middle of a city.

(can I just add at this point, I met Monica Lewinsky in 1998, and she actually really is staggeringly attractive in person. She photographs very, very badly, and looks 20kg heavier).
