Reverend Monkeypants: Who cares? They're adults.

This goddamn precious snowflake attitude that lasts into the mid-twenties has got to farking end.

A coach controls a student's scholarship.

You and your boss are presumably both adults, but his giving you a reach-around is inappropriate since he controls your paycheck.

So when will the NCAA announce that they are stripping the University of Texas of all the titles her teams won since 2002? It's the very sort of overreach and overreaction I've come to expect from them.

/cue the UoT president holding a news conference looking all doe eyed and accepting it without question

Nice try... the Sandusky penalty was imposed because the school covered up violent child rape for the sake for its sports program... a choice the NCAA responded to with a penalty designed to be so extreme that nobody would ever, ever dare to be so venally stupid again.

Lexx: I'm sorry, since when does consensual sex between adults equate a scandal of any kind? Gen Patreus was the exception to the rule, since his may well have compromised national security.

And FTFA: 'The paper said her attorney, Derek A. Howard, issued a statement, which said in part: "We believe that Ms. Kearney has been subjected to a double standard and has received far harsher punishment than that being given to her male counterparts who have engaged in similar conduct. ... It is a shame that this remarkably talented female African-American coach, who has devoted her life to helping others, is being bullied and scapegoated by the University of Texas."'

Apparently neither you OR her attorney read the news - in any form.

1) Men are routinely and in the over-whelming majority (95+%) of cases are treated more harshly than women.

2) Women made absolutely sure that the laws were written such that any relationship of this type was 'illegal' because of the 'boss/subordinate' nature of them.

Why did the student wait 10 years to report the relationship?  Was blackmail involved?

Yeah, a consensual adult relationship is exactly the same as sodomizing grade schoolers and your buddies covering it up.

Generally speaking, I think in an academic setting the policy is to prevent students from gaining an unfair advantage. Imagine you narrowly miss out on a 4.0 one semester, only to discover that the student who beat your grades, also happened to be sleeping with the professor. Even in college we like to hold on to the ideal that life is fair. Sleeping your way to the top is reserved to the private sector.

Now how this policy applies to a coach rather than a professor, I really don't know, but I suspect it's just because it falls under the umbrella of no faculty/student relationships at all.

Wow. I was going to make a snarky comment here, but the coach in question has recovered from a serious injury, adopted a dead friend's kid, is in the Hall of Fame, etc, etc.

There aren't many details of the affair in the article, but it lasted 8 years. Makes me think there's much more to the story.

She will probably find a new job pretty quickly, I hope.
