So anyway, I live in New England and I drove past the local Shoprite. Apparently, lobster goes for $3.99 a pound here. That's like half the price of deli chicken I just bought.

My local Smart and Final was selling Foster Farms individually-packaged chicken breasts for $3.99 a pound until recently. Went up to $4.23, but still a bargain compared to elsewhere. Used to be that I was glad I had never developed a taste for lobster, but if it's getting to be cheaper than chicken, I may have to revisit that.

I'm sorry if people figured out that the high price of lobster was a scam all these years. I still love it and will eat it often, especially since it's cheaper.

Lobstermen? Have they been featured as villains on Dr. Who yet?

lobster and crabs are basically ocean bugs. and are as plentiful as such,no reason that shiat should be 35/lb.

Lobster is harder to transport than crab and it takes -years- for a single lobster to grow to a decent size.

Chicken is still a lot cheaper, unless you eat the lobster's shell and guts too.

Came for Xcom TFTD reference, left angry and resentful at past defeats at the claws of lobstermen.

In other news, a biatchewy is what Elmer Fudd calls the complaints department.

$7.99/lb here in Berkeley CA for live lobsters from the other side of the country.

Local Dungeness crab is $5.99/lb, and stone crab is $2.99/lb.

The local halal butcher shop has whole chickens $1.25/lb, boneless skinless breast $2.89/lb.

/so we had stone crab for dinner last night with garlic/tarragon/thyme butter

If they are stupid enough to sell at those prices than its there own fault. Supply and demand simple.

We did our part and had 4 2lb PEI lobsters on New Years Eve.  Between 5 of us, we couldn't even get through two of the big buggers.

Still working on the lobster bisque I made with the leftovers.

The lower prices don't seem to have trickled down to the rest of the country. Someone is making a mint but it sure isn't the consumer.

Most of the cost of lobster is transport.

Someone needs to tell the lobsters about MegaBus. At least a hundred of them could fit into one seat, so if they reserve far enough in advance it would cost only a penny to transport them to GET IN MY BELLY!

The beginning of last summer I was getting them for $1/lb boat price. DELIVERED.

Lower prices for producers means same price for consumers. Economics is tricky.
