They still play hockey at a 'professional' level? Really?

Huh. Well, sucks to be NHL fans this year.

Trolling aside, Now that over half the season is gone by and there are players who are playing overseas and such, how will this affect the long term life span of the game?

DssDevl: Just when we decided we didn't give a shiat anymore.

I was just thinking the same thing -- I thought I'd be a LOT more enthusiastic about this news, but...meh.

I suppose I'm just waiting for the next collective boning the loyal fanbase gets.
Maybe they'll make all the TV games Pay-Per-View?
Maybe arena security will confiscate jerseys not purchased from the official store?
Maybe, in a true demonstration of how out-of-touch they are, the truncated season will come with inflated ticket prices to make up the "lost" revenue?

The Kings repeat!

2013-01-06 06:34:45 AM
Still, fark you, Bergman.

/And congrats to the US team on their WJC gold medal

Well, it is coming out that the deal is a 10 year deal with an option at 8 years, so it will be a while before another lockout. We can only hope it's the last one for a while. At least we can see Toronto not win the cup in more traditional way.

As a lifelong hockey fan, I want to care. I really do.

But unless the tickets are free, I don't think you'll find me going to any games. I've gotten quite satisfied with juniors & college games. All the intensity, very little ego, great teamwork, and no Bettman.

Oh, and Fark you, Bergman.

2013-01-06 06:52:18 AM
Well, this billionaires' tantrum was over a lot quicker than the last one. I guess letting the big brats tire themselves out really works!

Go Pens!

2013-01-06 06:58:13 AM
You hockey fans are pathetic. After getting bent over repeatedly, you're willing to line back up for more already?

Hockey!

Well, guess I got to find out when Kings opening tix go on sale.

farking A, Kopitar got hurt Saturday too.

2013-01-06 07:01:52 AM
Does Bergman get to keep his job? Yes? Then unless the Hurricanes make another short-season cup run I'm going to have a hard time getting interested in the NHL.

Bergman needs to go, otherwise this whole shaitfest is guaranteed to happen again in a few years

2013-01-06 07:02:31 AM
Fark you. You wait until the last minute to settle. That was your intention all along. DIAF. Too bad there's no chance the first night will be greeted with empty arenas.

Not a fan of the 2 amnesty buyouts. Part of the appeal of a new CBA was watching a few teams reap what their stupidity had sown. A stupidity that was hypocritical in light of their demands this lockout.

This whole fiasco came from teams not being able to handle themselves. After the players gave up everything the last time around in order for a cap to be implemented - which was a good thing (and I say that as a fan of a team that took it on the nose as a result) - it was perverse that, with record revenue coming in, the owners would once again bleed the players for issues that they themselves (owners) had created. The 2 amnesty buyouts are icing on that rancid cake. Especially since they will count against the players' share and not the cap.

Lesson to teams: f*ck up all you want. There will be no moment of accountability for your mistakes.

At any rate, good to have the NHL back. I look forward to the 2013 Asterisk season.

2013-01-06 07:13:45 AM
As a fan who has gotten much more in the game since the last lockout, this one has really made me realise that the owners and players do not give a single shiat about us peasants who pay their salaries.

I am boycotting the first 3 games of my team. Maybe more if you all join in. We as fans deserve better and we are owed something by a greedy bunch of players and owners who could care less about the game. It's all about the money. It was never about hockey.

If you truly care about the game, then go see your local minor team, teach your kid how to skate backwards, pay a game of road hockey! Time to tell these greedy people we have had enough! We love the game and it is not about money!

Please boycott the nhl and support your local minor team.

/GO RAIDERS!

While a few months ago this would be great news to wake up to, now I find that I just don't give a shiat. I still love the game but I'm not interested in the NHL any longer. They farked around too long & I found other things to occupy my free time/interest level. I might stream a game sometime off in the future but forget about going to any actual games (granted that is easier to say living 2 hours away from the nearest team (one which I don't care about), but I did plan on going to a couple of games this year), or buying any official merchandise, etc. In fact I will go out of my way not to allow any money into their pockets.

Bottom line, fark you Bergman & Fahr. It's probably too much to hope for but it would be great if the arenas were essentially EMPTY for the first week back. Perhaps then it would sink in to all those entitled jackasses just who pays for everything they were whining about.

Shut up and take my money!

So all this shiat pretty much just to have the same upper cap as last year when it had been going up, and move to a 50-50 revenue split instead of 57% for the players? And more owner self-protection by limiting FA contract lengths?

Sounds like the players got hosed, as expected, and are trumpeting the pension plan deal (which hasn't even been hashed out) as some kind of moral victory. It couldn't be that they were about to lose the entire season and possibly some of next season for NOTHING, and they had to cave and save face (and money)...oh no...but then again what could they have done against Buttman and the owners, who were clearly ready to trash the league in order to get what they wanted? Just sign the farking papers and drop the goddamn puck!!

Wonder if they'll run some discounts on Center Ice for this season.

Serious Black: It's going to fall apart.

This.

These negotiations have been an insult to fans from the beginning. Until Bergman is gone and sent to a firey death, I wont be able to trust these bastards.

Will I be happy if the season resumes? Yes. Only because after hand-egg is over I won't be stuck watching tree-hockey.

According to TSN, there is apparently a 50-game and a 48-game season schedule on the books.

The fact that the first games will be played in mostly full arenas of cheering fans turns my stomach.

Battered woman syndrome indeed.
