According to AOL Jobs, certain fields are more likely to attract psychopaths than others.

Guess AOL forgot to mention dial-up ISPs who snail mail spammed you with CD ROMs?

My first thoughts were corporate executive lawyer and doctor. I'm glad to see all of these were covered. A bit surprised by journalist.

Slideshows don't turn me into a psychopath. People trying to pad their site hits by using a terrible site format turn me into a psychopath.

Lots of those people are probably mis-classified as psychopaths and are, in fact, actually just assholes.

/Interesting read.

So just how did they come up with the numbers they allegedly have?

Somehow, I don't see to many top CEOs responding to a request to take psych tests for some study by some minor academics.

And those who would respond are probably different in some significant way than those who don't.

Though CEOs being psychopaths does have an intuitive appeal. But the simple reality is that it is far easier to do terrible things to people that you can't see (lay off a thousand people off, drop a bomb, etc) than it is to do terrible things to those up close and personal. CEOs tend to do terrible things to those who they can't see. If you really want to have a satisfying career as a psychopath, you might consider middle management. There you can personally make loads of people's lives a living hell and you can see the misery close up.

That list sounds like populist b.s.

"Oh, CEOs are the worst and teachers are the best. Way to stick it to The Man!"

Plus, they didnt list professional painters. Those really are some crazy farkers.

The person who made up that list obviously does not know any nurses or physicians.

It has more to do with the way they lust for power, so they're more likely to be the bosses than someone lower on the ladder. They want to control everyone, they're fake, know how to manipulate and groom others to get what they want = they get themselves into positions of authority.

It doesn't have to be a CEO. It can also be your boss at the fast food joint, your civil servant boss.....but never fear, if there's a way for them to climb higher in the ranks, it is their #1 priority, and they know the best ways to make it happen.

Look for the person who brown-noses anyone above them, who seems to be just a little too popular around the office for no particular reason, who seems to be involved in a lot of intrigue and wheeling and dealing. They're just moving the players around to their best advantage. And most people, not knowing what they're dealing with, will fall for it.

They appear to have the order reversed.

That was a bogus list. I had the perfect psychopath job once...commercial film processor. I'd spend hours in a darkroom...totally dark...splicing reels of film together and loading them onto a processing machine. Alone with your thoughts...well not really, there was a radio and this was when Howard Stern was on in the morning and was funny, so I pretty much listened to his show all the time. If the machine malfunctioned we had to go in there with a hardhat that had an infrared goggle attached to it. I once went in there with the goggle while my cohort was splicing (we entered through a 'light lock') and it was really creepy to see his eyes open and unfocused in the dark...he didn't even know I was there because of the noise of the machine. But yeah if you had some psycho in you, this job would not have helped.
