Ooh! Ooh! Can we please add these to the TSA scanners and pass a "too smelly to fly" law?

It smells like it's dying, because it's dying.

I've only been to California a few times (a handful of short airport stopovers several years ago, one overnight stay more recently), and the Godawful nose-rending stench is the only thing I really remember about it. Does it always smell like a dog soaked in fish oil died up a hobo's ass, or was I just unlucky?

Honest question. I like Cali otherwise.

Well that seems like money well spent. "What's that, ma'am? You say the air stinks? Hang on. I'll check....Our $200,000 stink detector has confirmed that it does, indeed, stink right now. Thank you for calling."

WTF is this stink detector supposed to do that couldn't be accomplished with a call to the local Fish and Game department? I just checked and there's an office right there. "Hey, Fred, is there a bunch of dead stuff floating on the lake today?" "Yup."

There. I saved the government $200,000. Send a check for 10% and we'll call it even.

Depends on where you were. It's kind of a big place.

And why doesn't CA have it's own tag? Kick out the illegals, thus reducing demand, and thus restoring the Salton Sea. Problem solved.

LA and Hollywood.

I don't know if this is true, but I heard that while New York has the most lawyers per capita, New Jersey has the most toxic waste sites per capita. They say it's because New Jersey got first pick.

Oh, that's just Nick Nolte. But sometimes he's away on location.

Yeah, genius. The entire state is gaseous swampland and refineries. Or maybe the bad smell is your wife.

Salton Sea area is gorgeous. Pretty much most of the sea has no development or people. Serene.

In the summer it sometimes smells like hot ocean water. In the winter, there is no smell at all.

It was a tourist mecca in the 1950s-1960s and there is still some of that decaying infrastructure to be explored.

Yes, gorgeous in a post-apocalyptic way.
