They're the only Gawker site I still like. Aside from the stupidity that Gawker forces on them (terrible layout and commenting system), they are a pretty good source of Sci-Fi and Fantasy news and reviews. I especially love their True Blood and AHS episode reviews/recaps.

I wanted to write a book called 1983. It would have detailed the slide into the intrusive surveillance government described in 1984.

Unfortunately, its already happened.

So now we ARE supposed to judge a book by its cover?

What about that couple from the Vancouver hockey riots? That picture was _made_ to be a 1984 cover.

That novel scares me crapless because the comment on politicians and their love of power is so timeless. Why are we humans often inhuman?!?

when did redacted replace the word censored?

or am i missing something in the meaning?

Redacted has a more doubleplus good connotation whereas censored has a more ***CARRIER LOST***

Penguin is releasing new editions of five of books by George Orwell, with covers by designer David Pearson.

Why? Why is it apparently noteworthy that some guy changed the cover? Is the story different now?

Like it, but it would have been better if like The Man in the High Castle, there was only a small logo for Penguin books. A washed out grey cover with censored words and a small logo would have been even better.

Because this is so incredibly edgey and different! The title and author are BLACKED OUT! That is revolutionary. At least, that is the vibe I get from the article.

Too bad it misses the point - in 1984 the censorship an revisionism were so complete that people couldn't even tell things were being changed and censored. Even when it was done right in front of their eyes they still didn't even see it. That was Orwell's fear - the perfect totalitarian state reaching right into the citizens' minds.

Well.. Pearson inc owns penguin books (for now). Coincidence? Fascinating.

Awesome design. But it'll probably still have crappy binding. Have Easton or Folio Society put an edition out with this cover and I'll bite.

So, the guy just coppied the advertisement copy for 'Zero Dark Thirty' or whatever that 'AMERICA, FARK YA!' shiatfest was that kept putting up adds with 'scribbled out' names?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of this.

IMO the best 'cover change' gimmick they could have pulled was to release the same copy of the book, but with every reference to 1984 changed to 1986.
