Maybe he's going to the CFL?

I actually believe him, if only because SEC coaches who bolt for the NFL have a consistent history of sucking something awful and then coming back to college. He's 61. His legend is assured. It can never be greater in the NFL than it will be at Bama, especially if he wins it all 1 or 2 more times. Even if he won 3 Super Bowls -  highlyunlikely, given his age, record, and the teams he would be going to - the fame wouldn't match what 3 national titles would get him in Alabama.

He's getting NFL money in Bama too, and he doesn't have to deal with NFL egos. He's staying put.

He is fast becoming a legend in Alabama. I expect another couple of championships and he'll have his name on the stadium. As mentioned above, he's getting NFL money without the egos so I don't think he will leave. But, if he does I won't feel any bitterness toward him for it.
That being said, ROLL TIDE!!!!!

Saban is not a good enough coach for the NFL.  He needs to stay in the SEC where lack of ethics is the most important skill.

So Bama is under NCAA investigation too, I presume.

He'll never leave the SEC. There's a lower salary cap in the NFL.

I'm going to have to assume you don't really watch much football and instead rely on things your wife says when she comes home from work for your football news.

Why would he leave? He gets paid like an NFL coach, he gets to run his program like it's an NFL program, and unlike the NFL, he gets the best players handed to him on a silver platter.

Because 9-7 and 6-10 seasons with the Dolphins shows he has what it takes to be an NFL coach. Like how Rick Pitino's success in college showed he had what it took to be successful as an NBA coach.

i can't see nick saban going back to the nfl. his style of coaching doesn't really work unless he has better players than every other team

He already got beaten nearly to death with the peter principle when he rose to the highest coaching level in football. Why would he want to go back for another ass whooping? He is awesome at this lower tier and he should stay right here where he belongs with a big ole smile on his face

I would disagree that the creme of NCAA football is a lower tier. It is just different.

He's not a good NFL coach.. one of his biggest strengths is that he can take a kid and mold them into being a great football player.

In the NFL, the egos are already there, he can't mold them effectively and is reduced to a play caller and strategy guy. Which he is good at, but not necessarily better than any of the other top level coaches. He excels at making good and great players out of young men, and that is why he is a great college coach, but just a mediocre Pro coach.

But when is he going to bring back "V.R. Troopers?"

What, add another hyphen? Because there is no way they'd take Bryant's name off it. Hard to imagine Denny's name off either; it's had that name since it was built.

You're right though, he is an Alabama legend. One fan I know told me "he may be a scumbag, but he's OUR scumbag!"

Surely he knows that all CFB dynasties end sooner or later. He's not going to keep winning national titles forever. He's gotten lucky the last two years that his team was rated the best one-loss team in the country and that there was only one eligible undefeated team. If he loses a second game (like to LSU this year), he doesn't have a chance at getting the title.

Ten bucks says he leaves within the next two years for the NFL again, and one buck says he does it within the next two weeks.

9-7 in a division with the as of yet uncaught for spying Patriots and Gus Frerotte as your QB isn't a bad coaching job. 6-10 with Culpepper/Harrington was pretty obvious even when they were hyped that off-season.

Not a huge fan of Saban but I am a fan of not assuming a coach's 1st and 2nd years are the height of their coaching potential.

I assume you said the same things about Pete Carroll too.

Bryant will NEVER be removed, and neither will Denny. Either another hyphen or name the field after him. Something like that.

How about Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium?  That is an option I could support.

He's one of the best college coaches we've ever seen and a mediocre-at-best NFL coach. Of course, I said the same thing about Pete Carroll a few years ago.

If one division of the NFL will let him sign contracts with 106 players, and only use the 53 who played best during training camp he might do pretty good. But the NFL generally makes every division follow the same rules.

/If he wins he will accomplish pretty much all you can at Alabama. I see him taking a pay raise for a second rate team in a big conference who has an alumni with deep pockets.
