While I agree that "rape" is not the best choice of words for a broadcaster, he has a point with "including a ton of pork."  There were provisions for Alaskan fisheries in the bill.  Tell me how the fark Hurricane Sandy could have hurt Alaskan fisheries.

"I think what Boehner did in postponing the vote until today was absolutely right," Krauthammer declared. "That was a rape of the Treasury - $60 billion, including a ton of pork. The part that was essentially passed today to replenish the flood insurance. That is right, and the rest ought to be debated in regular order."

Amen!

It washed so many fish onto shore that the city has a surplus and doesn't have to import from Alaska?

If it's legitimate rape, Congress has natural means to shut those funds down.

The entirety of the bill that was just passed was raising the borrowing limit of the National Flood Insurance program.  Please point to the pork in the bill that was passed.

He's pissed-off about this new-fangled practice of attaching unrelated items to "ride" along with the central purpose of the bill.

And the appropriate time to take a stand against this is right now!!  With this bill!  Because this is a brand-new, nefarious, America-hating scheme invented by liberals!  Or something!

If this is true, then I'm fine with voting against it, so long as the person voting it down is willing to reintroduce a porkless, clean bill. Republicans didn't do that because their entire party is full of clowns, morons, and sociopaths.

Let me be clear here. Republicans would have voted this down regardless because the funds would help blue states.

So you think its better to have a separate bill and debate on a few million $ for a fisheries study?  Can you imagine how expensive and long a process it would be if every individual program, study, and expense had to be its own separate bill?  Much easier and more efficient to bundle smaller programs into a larger spending bill.

The modern Congress wouldn't be able to pass a declaration of war without slipping in a rider to name a new school after Ronald Reagan.

Let's see, the provision for Alaskan fisheries would probably been added by a representative from Alaska. Alaska only has one representative in the House. Don Young is their representative and he is a Republican.

So Republicans are blasting a bill because it contains pork that they themselves added to it. That makes total sense.

With a no-bid contract to the Representative's brother-in-law to install the sign at the school for only $25 million.

The part that was essentially passed today to replenish the flood insurance. That is right, and the rest ought to be debated in regular order."

Okay, normally rape talk gets me really pissed off. I read the article expecting to be infuriated. I was not. He is clearly using an archaic meaning of the term, one that is still listed in the dictionary. From Dictionary.com:

Rape
4.   an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation
5.Archaic.the act of seizing and carrying off by force.

That is not to say Krauthammer is not completely wrong here as well as being a complete tool. He is on both counts. It's that to get on him for his use of "rape" in that sentence is almost as bad as getting on someone for using the word "nubianrdly," as well as distracting from how wrong he is on other counts.

I agree. It's too bad the military doesn't ever get pork projects, huh Lt.? Certainly we need MORE Carrier groups, while the Navy starves the USMC for basic gear. And throw in some more M1's, and F-22's while you're in there. They are gonna look great in the desert in mothballs, I'm sure you'll agree?

Efficient nothing.
If it's worth doing, it's worth its own bill.

The pork that was in the senate bill was all aimed for solidly red states in a somewhat jaded (but effective) maneuver to get GOP senators to vote for it. So now Boehner has not only the GOPS of NJ and NY pissed but also the GOP senators who did not get their projects funded.

Brilliant!

From Another Article:  "more than 100 pages of legislation detailing the $60 billion disaster aid plan Congress considered, there's almost no mention of specific projects: no order to rebuild the sand dunes in Belmar that washed away. No earmark to fix the breached berm in the Meadowlands that flooded...Instead, the versions that passed between the House and Senate laid out the spending in broad terms. Replenish the Federal Emergency Management Agency's budget; allocate funds for the Army Corps of Engineers to rebuild beaches and channels destroyed by superstorm Sandy; repair damaged roads, bridges and railroad infrastructure; and fund disaster relief and long-term housing needs through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development....Those broad, unspecified categories - as well as a Senate bill that once included $400 million for projects like a new roof on the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and funding for fisheries in Alaska - allowed critics in Congress and elsewhere to claim the aid package is laden with "pork," or unnecessary spending....The bill that passed in the Senate also included $287 million to repair national parks, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, as well as national fish hatcheries and wildlife refuges along the East Coast. It called for $235 million to repair and reconstruct the Manhattan Veterans Affairs hospital and other facilities that were severely flooded; $161 million for the Small Business Administration's disaster loan program, which offers low-interest financing to repair and rebuild private property, including homes, rental properties and businesses; $100 million for public health and social services programs affected by the storm; $24.2 million to repair Army National Guard buildings damaged by the storm; and $6 million for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to restock food banks and soup kitchens in affected areas."
==

It had originally come from the Senate a long time ago, so there was other business attached to it. This isn't unusual.
