Sure they'll help you, for a price. And let me tell you, you don't want any part of that barbed penis.

FTFA:

A prison spokesperson was quoted by local paper Estado de S. Paulo as saying: "It's tough to find out who's responsible for the action as the cat doesn't speak."

Classic journalism there, folks.

Taping the contraband to the cat was stupid.  They should have used a waistpack, then everyone would have thought the cat was just another tourist.

FTA: The cat was taken to a local animal centre. The jail holds some 263 prisoners.

Classic misdirection, note they don't tell you how many prisoners are in the animal shelter, where the real breakout will occur.

A cat will help you break out of jail only because it wants you to feed it.

Well, if I had to pick between a cat or a dog as to which one would collaborate with criminals to bring contaband into a prison which ultimatly makes a prison guards job more difficult and dangerous.

Yep, it would be a cat.

Dogs are cool and they do not like bad people.

I could see my cats doing this. I have one cat who's harness-trained to pull a cord for Cat5e cable through dropped ceilings. They are trainable and can be persuaded to help in many useful tasks, especially in an IT environment. In fact, Babbage and Tesla, the office cats, recently detected and isolated an out-of-spec mouse in the cubicle farm, deactivated it and brought it to the attention (and shoes,) of our Perl expert, purring loudly. They've also handled several bugs since we brought them in, including a spectacularly annoying moth which Tesla ate half of before depositing the remains in my inbox.

Office cats, every workplace should have them.

It does speak, but will not respond to questions other then: let me inside, I am hungry, or give me attention.

That cat was dead.

As they were pulling the tape off it, no movement.

Most all cat hate goes back to the hatred of women, hedonists, and nonconformists. Cat haters are Puritans at heart: they're disgusted by anything that lives in peace unearned through misery.

Very true. My dad coded for a small resort isle in the Delta area back in the late 80s that had several office cats because there was a bad problem with mice. Little bastards would run right across the desk while you were sitting at it, no fear at all. Dad eventually bought a mini-nightstick of sorts with which he'd club and stun any mice bold enough to pull that stunt and gave them to the cats, who reeeeally enjoyed those toys! IIRC, they also had a minor roach problem, which the cats also helped mediate.

/mine brings me birds and dragonflies
//how a bright white cat manages that I'm not sure
///probably has a sniper rifle stashed somewhere

Cats can be used to help prisoners escape.

Clearly, a total ban with draconian penalties for non-compliance is the only sensible answer.
