I think the point is a message for future historians. Namely, "since you're wondering why we managed to go from the world's only nuclear super-power to third-world banana republic in under fifty years, this is the sh*t we had to deal with on a daily basis"

The Library of Congress can do whatever the fark it wants with my tax dollars. They don't use that much money, and they don't hurt anyone with it. The LoC is certainly a heck of a lot better than some of our more unnecessary military programs or our handouts to wealthy people.

Old news is exciting!

/They've been doing this for at least 3 years because I remember my old boss (archivist) biatching about this.

As they should. History is history, and disk space is cheap.

Why not, NSA has already collected the information for them.

Aw, why limit the government to reading the musing of the twits in Congress, a la the Congressional Record?

Always assume that the government is collecting your musings.

FTFA - "Twitter is donating its archive to the library, going back to the first one posted in 2006."

So they'll spend a few hundred bucks on hard drives. Forgive me if I don't act like subby and flip out like petulant child.

Subby has a point, the couple of grand for a SSD raid could be better spent on putting armed teachers in police stations

I do wonder how they're doing the metadata - not sure how RDA handles this sort of thing.  And I'm very glad I'm leaving Technical Services to be a Director soon.  Jesus Hussein Kreist.
