Old Coot: While we all know that Liberace was a gay man, what many don't know is that the "flaming homosexual" that he played on stage and screes was all an act to keep his older female fans happy. According to much of what I've read, he was really a pretty rough and tumble guy...chugged beer, watched sports...you know...guy stuff.


I bet he and Paul Lynde sounded like a couple of lumberjacks when they went out on the town.

I love the old Tonight Show clips with Johnny asking Liberace if there's a "special lady" in his life. It's amazing to think Americans lived in a world, not that long ago, where you had to pointedly pretend Liberace wasn't gay.
