It happened earlier today and it was beautiful. Imagine William Shatner tweeting you while you're in orbit. It's kinda cool.

I used to read everything in Morgan Freeman's voice, but have since moved on to Shatner. He is now the official narrator of my life.

Takei posted it on his Facebook yesterday.  It's one thing for Shatner to tweet you, responding as if you're on the crew of the  Enterprise is an entirely different thing all together.

The "red shirt" response took it over the top.

Tweets in question...I'm guessing quite a few people don't get it.

@WilliamShatner
@Cmdr_Hadfield Are you tweeting from space? MBB

@Cmdr_Hadfield
@WilliamShatner Yes, Standard Orbit, Captain. And we're detecting signs of life on the surface.

Too bad Shatner's a major league dick.

Did read these in my twitter feed too, RT from NASA. I have enjoyed watching it bounce around since.

Wearing a red shirt, is he?

He's doomed.

As a huge Star Trek fan who's met Shatner *and* space geek who's visited the Canadian Space Agency, I nearly died when this happened. Magalie Renaud, who runs the Twitter account for the CSA, is still in disbelief.

Chris Hadfield is one of the coolest people alive.

Buzz Aldrin, Wil Weaton, and George Takei have gotten in on the conversation. Hadfield said they just need Leonard Nimoy to tweet and they have enough people for an away team.

I think I just had a little nerdgasm.

This is cool but not surprising. I'm trying to imagine an astronaut who is not a Star Trek fan, and it's just not happening.

It seems like he's getting better in his old age.
I watched the documentary The Captains, and it seems like he's becoming more aware of other people's feelings

Been following Chris Hadfields Tweets for over a week now. The pictures he tweets are incredible.

If you have the means I suggest you follow. Well worth it, IMO.

Red Shirt Of Doom, too bad.  Cmdr Hadfield knows better!
But this is cool that it's occurred.
Even tho it may be well worth it to follow the Cmdr's tweets, & I could, I won't. At least not til this very next deadline's accomplished, which is hoped for Later Today.
