All stones in the UK are 14 pounds.  During the reign of King Wilberforce Blackadder all stones weighing anything other than 14 pounds were transported to the colonies.

The Stone of Scone being the exception, weighing in at 336 pounds. King Wilberforce would've given his right buttock to have that stone, but had to make do with a replica.

/Or maybe he was jealous of The Cat Stane, marking the (possible) place where King Constantine III of Scotland died.

//there is actually some evidence that the original Stone of Scone was buried in Macbeth's castle.

///All this is mentioned in a book with the very funky title of The Scotichronicon. Sounds like something Terry Pratchett made up, but it's real.

What were we talking about again?

How the hell does that happen? I went from a normal healthy size 34" waist to a paunchy 36" waist during my divorce revenge hate-eating period and I felt like a complete fat piece of shiat.

Sadly, we live in a society of 'acceptance' where any lifestyle is okay and deserving of a cookie, pat on the back, and special treatment.

Good for him.

A housing association built him a special wide-doored bungalow after a temporary spell in an OAP home - although he still needed council workers to feed and clean him four times daily.

Yeah, that's not feeding, that's enabling. It's also why I think mobility scooters need a 300 pound weight limit switch.

2013-01-05 08:05:53 AM
Wow. I had to look up what a stone was in pounds and then do the math, but that is an impressive feat.

Losing 644 lbs couldn't have been the easiest thing to do. It's a little more complicated than "stop eating, you fat piece of shiat!". Anyone who gets THAT big has major psychological issues to work through in the first place.

Add to that the fact that the "fatty" lifestyle is very hard to change once you're settled and comfortable in it. Exercise is difficult and painful for fatties. Social situations become terrifying. It's so much easier to just stay home and eat. Which makes the problem even worse. Lather rinse repeat.

I wonder how much more weight he'll shed when he gets the excess skin removed.

Gortex: I wonder how much more weight he'll shed when he gets the excess skin removed.

The hospital I worked at used to do bariatric surgery. When the patients deflated like dude in TFA they'd be left with this vast, pendulous apron of skin called a "pannus". You couldn't just get rid of the pannus for being nasty. It had to be causing problems, and then it could be removed in a procedure called a "panniculectomy" (if I recall the terms correctly). I think they did prefer to put off the surgery until the patients' weight stabilized, but their main concern was the trouble it was causing.

Sadly, the navel had to be "sacrificed" for the procedure. Patients were surprisingly distressed by this.  Freaky.

Look, I know you're a troll an all, but it's not "free" healthcare. They pay taxes towards it. Think of it like Social Security, you pay a set fee into it, you may collect more you may collect less depending you how long you live. Hell, it's almost exactly like private health insurance, except you won't get automatically denied based on a cost/benefit analysis.

jeesis, pal, keep your shirt on

did I read correctly that he still weighs 24 stone? Not going back to abuse my eyes again. How did they perform the bariatric bypass at his weight? I saw some docu about some lard ass broad whose doctor wouldn't operate until she got her weight down to 500 or 550 pounds. She was allegedly dieting, making progress, and at the weigh-in before the surgery, instead of being at her needed goal, she was 112 pounds OVER. Doctor was crushed (oops, sorry, bad choice of words.) 25 pounds over, maybe even 50 over. But 112? She got sent back home.

Did you see the infographic about his old diet?

How can people actually afford to eat like that every day? I guess I'll never have his weight problem because I'd go broke within a month if I ate like that.

2013-01-05 10:46:45 AM
Take a look america -- this is your future. This guy didn't accomplish anything on his own. The Tax payers shelled out a CRAPTON of money for surgery to fix his inability to control himself.

When he weighted that much -- he obviously couldn't move - someone was feeding him. So not only is it his own fault, but it's the fault of a few others for enabling him.

This is no different than if I were go and start smoking 5 packs of cigarettes a day, getting lung cancer and then expecting the tax payers to dish out a million to fix a problem that I created in the first place.

I realize this is across the pond over in Jolly ole' England - but I'm rather tired of seeing useless sacks of crap get bailed out, helped out, and paid all because they are too weak or too stupid to take care of themselves in a proper manner.

The popular trend of bailing out or fixing everyone's problems with everyone ELSE'S money needs to go away, sooner rather than later.
