fusillade762: Anthony Bourdain of CNN

Is he really "of CNN" if his show there hasn't even started yet?

WhippingBoy: Why do bronies always look exactly like you'd expect them to look?

Because stereotypes are true.

HaveBeerWillTravel: I don't mind the ponies, I guess, but... seriously, this is the toy-based franchise from my childhood we brought back? What's a man gotta do to get some Masters of the Universe?

Or Transformers? Or GI Joe?!

Well, He-Man is Mattel and I don't know what those guys are doing with their franchises, but the other two have seen as much reboot action as MLP. Not sure if the most recent series are any good, but I have to think they at least don't suck. Hasbro is taking their half-hour toy commercials seriously these days.

Wayne 985: If you're a grown man, without kids, and you're watching My Little Pony, you had better be stoned. Otherwise, I really have to assume you have some sort of emotional or mental immaturity or that you're close to being a pedophile.

This stuff is remarkably creepy. It's not an "all ages" show, it's for little girls and, yes, I judge you for obsessing over it. I'm all for geekdom, but at a certain point, it has to be said: if you're a man, be a man. You people are about a step away from leering at children on a swing set.

The problem isn't that they watch it. I watch childish shows and i'm ok with that, but i don't label myself but what I watch. I'm just a guy. I don't consider myself a GAMER because i play video games. I'm just a guy and one of my hobbies is playing games. I also have many other hobbies.

I never watched My Little Pony and i'm willing to accept that it may actually be entertaining, but i would never label myself a BRONY just because i watch it. People who consider themselves Bronies are just people with nothing else going on in their lives who need to seek attention because OH MY GOD I'M A GUY AND I WATCH A SHOW MARKETED TO GIRLS! I used to watch "Invader Zim", but i never went around calling myself a ZIMMY or a ZIMITE or whatever. I watched it, i enjoyed it and i never felt the need to yell random catch phrases from the show in peoples faces, unlike many others I've met who have since made me hate the show.

And the only reason i say that Bronie's seem to have nothing else going on in their lives, is because 9x out of 10 when one is called out, they usually start spewing out about their education and what they do for a living, as though it makes it any less sad that they're people who define themselves by the fact that they watch a tv show marketed to little girls. Congrats, you watch my little poney, i doubt you literally have "10 Masters degrees" and play over "5000 different instruments" (Yes thats one of the many arguements I've heard as to why it's ok that they're a "brony").

I have a Rainbow Dash hat (there is a bad picture of it in my profile). It is 900 million percent cooler than anything else I could ever put on my body. That hat gets me dates.
Even if I do have a non-ironic appreciation of ponies and friendship and little purple dragons, which I totally do, I also have an appreciation for the fact that I put on that hat and girls think it's adorable. I am not trying to brag here in any specific fashion but I am doing very well at this point and it is all because I have an awesome hat.

ImNotFatImFluffy: except..... bronies are guys.... always.

If you talk to the people who are serious about it, you can have a whole gender politics lesson on whether "Bronies" are sufficiently inclusive of the feminine or whether the proper term for adult female fans is "Pegasisters." The truly serious fangirls I know mostly go with "Brony" as a gender-neutral term, but there are a couple who really do feel that the distinction and recognition of their gender is important enough to require its own terminology. It's half-ridiculous, but at the same time just about anybody who has ever taken a Woman or Queer Studies Class gets to hear all the same arguments about a slightly different set of distinctions.

They did two He-Man reboots in 1990 and in 2000. Neither stuck around for very long.

As for GI Joe, there has been one movie out and another on the way, plus several ongoing comic book series.

Transformers, for those not living under a rock in their closet, have had 3 live action films released, with a 4th coming soon. Not to mention a sh*tload of comics, video games and action figures.

So... why can't people just like stuff?

I like fishing, but some people would find that boring. These threads always become " stop liking what I don't like."

Maybe being a brony is slightly weird but no weirder than being a wrestling or football nut. Congratulations, you nerd out about grown men wrestling each other to the ground over and over again. It's only acceptable because people have been doing it for generations but you have to admit, objectively it looks a little homosexual. People with glass houses and everything...

Yes, because enjoying cartoon unicorns or D&D or building Lego sets in an adult's spare time is sooo much less pathetic than spending 30 hours a week watching sports on TV.

I have no problems with bronies if they submit to spaying/neutering. Can't have their defective genes continuing. They are nothing but attention whores who think they are being unfairly singled out. They need to shut up

Because its funny enough to bear repeating.

bencoon: Some people sure have very strong opinions about a Saturday morning cartoon.

I don't think anyone really cares if you like watching My Little Pony, regardless of age or gender.  What is creeping is 30 year male who is OBSESSED with a show written for little girls.  Its the obsession that gets mocked/creeps you out.

2013-01-05 03:47:45 AM

Kaybeck: Adults stopped appearing when people over the age of 18 started watching Spongebob.

There have been a lot of jokes on Spongebob written for adults. Hell there have been entire episodes of Spongebob that really aren't for kids, oh sure they'll think they're cute and all, but the setting and context just fly over their heads. There's the classic POOP, People Order Our Patties, job training video segment. Except for giggling at the mention of the word poop no kid knows why that segment is so awesomely funny.

Bronies = Gaynies.

(Not to be confused with being gay, which is perfectly good. Yes, there's a difference).

And as far as MLP goes, I honestly don't get the whole brony thing, but...

(1) Extremists of any sort of fandom are creepy. Although I would keep further distance from an NFL nut than a brony. At least I don't have to worry about a brony being a drunken lout who wants to punch me in the face because Rainbow Dash botches a field goal.

(2) Kids entertainment that adults can enjoy with their children is always a good thing. It's way too easy to crank out banal crap that distracts the kids with "shiny things" but make the grown-ups want to take a drill to their own brain.

(3) I don't know what it is about the MLP animated gifs and the captioned pics, but they always make me smile smile smile.
