Seeing this story time and time again makes me wonder: WHY THE fark DOES INDUSTRY STILL SELL METHANOL CHEAPER THAN ETHANOL!?

Put a huge punitive tax on methanol so that moonshiners will never consider cutting their products with it to make it go further.

The kin of some of the victims claimed that the deceased had not consumed liquor. Kusum Devi, wife of Munna Chauhan, and Pappu Kewat, son of Sukhu Kewat, said the two had not consumed hooch. Weeping inconsolably, Kusum said her husband started shivering on Friday morning and went to attend nature's call several times. Pappu Kewat said his father complained of pain in the abdomen and headache on Friday morning and died.

Then of course, it is India. Could be, with 1,000,000,000 to choose from in poor sanitation, these 9 died of illness.

They probably used the water that runs in those convienient canals they have running down the center of their streets.

Patna City ASP Chandan Kushwaha, however, said the family members of Munna Chauhan, Sukhu Kewat and Mahendra Das showed to the police doctors' prescriptions to press home the point that they were undergoing treatment for different diseases.

Two notes:
1. Snakes (or snake charmers) are perfect candidates for government jobs.
2. You have to get a prescription for booze in India? I know some states are dry, but Bihar (where this happened) is not one of them.

That's kind of what I was thinking. That and that if I had to eat Indian food every day it would eventually kill me as well.

A tainted hooch is an adulterated spirit, Lankesh. It's Mickey Mouse, mate. Spurious. Not genuine. And it's worth... fark-all.

On the isle of Goa, in the western part of India, they have a local alcohol called fenny, which is made from cashew fruit. It's freakin' delicious and you should try some if you're ever there.

Didn't Barry want to cut corn subsidies? Or did it get blocked?

Ha ha, you must be joking. The 2008 Farm Bill, which included subsidies for corn that were so extreme that Mexicans couldn't afford tortillas anymore, got extended for another year at the very last minute because we didn't want the price of milk to double this week.

How could you drink enough 4.7% to get a hangover?

During prohibition the government poisoned industrial ethanol. People just redistilled it so the government added poisons that were more difficult to remove. It eventually killed about 10,000 people.

I'm betting the hangover wasn't from the alcohol.

That's the same sort of bullshiat logic that legislators use to justify restricting access to Sudafed.
