My wife is short. My job in life is to get things off high shelves and open jars.

Being a short guy sucks balls. Screw every tall guy in this thread stealing my five foot gals.

I honestly don't care about the height of a girl, but it seems like too many women do.

None want a shorter guy (i said want, not will settle for). Most want a guy at least a few inches. Many don't want to be equal even with high heels.

Yeah, women like tall guys, but if you're a guy who only likes skinny girls, then you're shallow.

Ya. I judge them by health-related things they could change if they wanted to (and I'm fighting off last season's weight right now)

Uzzah: find an easier route down from there,

There is a much easier route, the easiest route is actually almost not even a climb, you can walk most of it with no need for rope or anything. Indeed Aconcague is basically the tallest mountain in the world a person who isn't a hardcore climber can summit without becoming a hardcore climber or paying someone to get them to the top. The greatest danger is altitude sickness.

EngineerAU: mscleo: marleymaniac: Actually two guys died. Why is the second guy, who tried to go for help, just a footnote in this story?

I'm guessing that the second guy isn't from Oregon

Looks that way. The Denver Post has more about the second guy. Link

The Denver Post article is much better than the POS linked to this thread.

OscarTamerz: The thing about climbing is that all those dead bodies on Everest with their faces eaten away were killed by High Altitude Pulmonary Edema AKA HAPE. There's no way to predict who's going to get it and how severe it's going to be and it seems to affect younger and fitter climbers the most. So all climbing boils down to is a very expensive game of Russian roulette where a known percentage of people are going to die and everybody pays tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars each to play and find out who it's going to be. They could save themselves the time and money by buying a 9 shot revolver and passing it around so everyone has a turn and see who makes it or not.

This is such an ignorant post, I don't even know where to begin. Let's put it in just two words:

You're wrong.

FTFA: "The only way out of that situation was to climb to the summit," Felton said.

No f*cking way. That is patently incorrect, and a seriously stupid thing to do. I've climbed in the Andes, rode my bike @5000m, you don't mess around with HACE or HAPE.

I have always acclimated well and thrived at altitude (may not next time) .....on my last trip to Peru we dealt with a Kiwi who was as close to dying as I've seen a person...this at 3800m ....scary.

The ONLY course of action is DOWN, NOW!

/my sincere condolences, but terrible article and awful advice...
//what route were they on? south face? the south face is a 10000 foot wall of vertical kitty litter....why would anyone climb that?
///north west walk up has seen several bikes and dogs summit.....motorcycle to 6600m too
//still want to ride my bike off of it...

From the Denver Post article, linked above:

"They considered going on the Polish Traverse but decided to take the more challenging route up the face of the Polish Glacier."

They were experienced climbers, but their last minute decision to attempt a route that they weren't prepared for did them in. They just didn't have the correct equipment for the route.
