All the feet are showing up on Canadian beaches, which is weird since they use the metric system.

Auto knife? wtf? Ohhh, a switchblade. You going to tell me no one calls it a switchblade anymore? That's much cooler sounding than auto knife. Technically a stiletto is an auto knife too.

Anyways, back to rabble rousing. If the police/government can't protect you or your children then you have to protect yourself.

/they can't protect everyone all the time, that's why you need to be able to protect yourself. It's like teaching your kid how to punch.

I carried a pocket knife most days in high school. I guess today I would be considered a terrorist and locked up in the looney bin.

Same here. I needed it every day for forestry judging practice.

"I carried a pocket knife most days in high school."

I carried one from about 5th grade on. Most of the other boys did too. Never occurred to us to kill someone with it. It was a tool.

Take an aspirin for a headache? That's an expulsion.
Point your finger at someone? Expulsion.
Plastic butter knife in your sack lunch? You guessed it... don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I think America hit the peak of the intelligence bell curve sometime in the late 70s, and now it's a greased bobsled ride to Hell.

We've become a nation of knee-jerk paranoid morons who would rather kick our kids out of school for taking a Tylenol or having a little plastic green Army man in their pocket than teach them there are penalties for being a criminal.

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

Me too, but the paranoia meter has been ratcheted up to 11 these days.

I noticed the article didn't say anything about heads or brains showing up at school either.

Forests are perfectly natural and you're a bigot for judging them.

We've always been a nation of knee-jerk paranoid morons. Now we just have more to be knee-jerk paranoid about and faster.

Considering the schools in TFA, im not surprised. Those are thug schools and anyone with an IQ over 80 open enrolls in other districts, the DM district is shiat.

Public school administrators would rather institute zero-tolerance policies and label the whole school a bunch of potential felons rather than help solve any problems because it sure beats thinking. Kid takes an Advil for a headache? Expel him, how dare he break the rules! Let a child defend himself against bullies? No way, that's against another zero-tolerance policy: better to let him commit suicide and let the problem be solved that way!

Public school administrators frankly are a scourge on our nation: we have decided to let petty, power hungry idiots run our schools and the results will be a bunch of kids that either hate and ignore any authority or are good little Bolsheviks. Neither choice is at all healthy.

You need to look past the administrators. The school boards are the ones who adopt the policies. And those school boards are made up of community members. Administrators answer to them, and if they don't enforce the policies (as asinine as those policies may be), it's their arses on the line, not the school board's. Now, I will say that most policies are "suggested" by administration (superintendents), but they do so usually at the request or expectation of the school board members.

A buddy in highschool brought a bowie knife to school one day. Was playing chicken with another guy and well, the other guy called his bluff. So, he stabbed him through the thigh pinning his leg to the chair.

Math teacher was completely oblivious.

I'm sure we all would have been locked up for knowing the guy.

It's always to person who throws the second punch who gets in trouble. That's just the way of the world.

Interesting if true. Bowie knife kid is a punk and thigh kid is totally badass to not even alert the teacher.

My wife worked for the Des Moines Public Schools for a number of years. You both are absolutely dead on.

First guy was a punk, and always thought himself a bad ass. That outlook was changed after this happened.
It was a pretty wild bunch I hung around. Thankfully, for my sake, I wasn't much of a copy cat. Much prefered to laugh at my buddies as they messed up, than be the one that ended up in the hospital or jail.

/a lesson I plan on teaching my kids.

Wouldn't it be a semi auto knife? After all, only 1 blade pops out per push of the release button.
And if the knife has a black plastic casing, would that be considered an assault knife?

Needs a pistol grip too.

Sad thing is a stiletto is apparently a long thin knife for stabbing and the stiletto we know is called a front end knife.

/not liking it at all

I would laugh, but my high school actually would do that. (Expel kids for defending themselves.)

/my husband's middle school too I believe.
