Good!   He is worse than a breakfast burrito made of Hitler sausage, Pol Pot cheese, and Stalin eggs.  Oh, it looks delicious, but half an hour later you're sitting on the can and spraying socialism in the bowl!

I know, I've worked with some cuban trained docs in the past. Pretty good at turning a nickel into a dime. I wonder what their stance on palliative care is over there.

Hugo Chavez is the most contrived, made up super-villian in world history. His turn to the dark side was him having the audacity to suggest that Cheney and Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks before they happened. He said this during a time when President Bush's approval ratings were still relatively high as he played up that War-time President shiat. That was the good old days when ANY comment against the President was considered treasonous and we were all supposed to have "respect for the office". Republicans immediately began including Chavez's name with Kim Jong-IL and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, while scared ass Democrats, trembling at the thought of being called a terrorist sympathizer, ran to Bush's defense. Chavez was born.

He has chased all foreign investment out of the country while stealing infrastructure the country invited them to put in place. He foments class warfare which basically makes the poor feel entitled to steal, murder, assault people better off than them. My family has a ranch down there and the adjoining ranches have already been taken by the government from its rightful owners. There are currently soldiers just slumming it there for the most part. Many people of any means have flat-out fled the country (although Chavez has put in barriers to withdrawing ones money from the country). There is a creepy cult of personality around Chavez that he manipulates by his long weekly(?) television addresses. Standard of living has gone into the toilet and crime rates have skyrocketed. At times the capital has had to ration power and water with curfews for the above (let me remind you this is an opec nation with rainforest in it). He has come down hard on critics, shutting down television/radio stations that criticize him. In the middle of a television address he ordered his military to form up on the Columbian border for kicks. He has rewritten the country's constitution to enable him to more easily control political underlings and expand his term limits. This is to say nothing of the shady elections he has held. Did I mention he's the president of a government he did jailtime for trying to overthrow?

I know I know, wall o text. I could go all day. If you were in Venezuela 20 years ago and then today the difference would be staggering. He's playing from the latin american banana republic dictator handbook. While that story usually ends with a shoot-out on the hacienda, it's looking more like it will end with a plug being pulled.

People have to gain some sort of control over themselves with this "terrorist" shiat. Farking Al Qaeda has won because ANY foreign leader who doesn something unscrupulous is immediately labelled. What you all are describing is not terrorism. The guy is farking up the country for his own financial benefit. Maybe we should vote him into the House of Representatives because the only difference that I can see between his rule and what Republicans propose is that he has the power to impose his beliefs all of the time. Omar Al-Bashir is commiting genocide in the Sudan. He took over in a military coup in 1989. Where is the constant national attention on him? I guess we'll have to wait until we find out whether he's a truther.

When I say, "we" I am not speaking about guys who spend hours on the politics tab. I knew who he was. Prior to his anti-Bush comments he was just another leader who lied to the citizens of his country to grab power and wealth. After the comments he became a terrorist. I am speaking only about how Hugo Chavez became so popular to hate. Again, I have made no comments on whether or not he's a douche. I just said he isn't a douche worthy of the coverage that he receives from the American media and our politicians. There are many leaders who are far worse.

And I've not called him a terrorist. He may or may not terrorize his citizens (he really does seem to be a dick - not the worst of all leaders out there, but nowhere near the best). Additionally, much of this shiat that's going on probably has less to do with his comments about Bush and much more to do with lefties fellating him constantly. I remember seeing people defend him left and right back in the day. That seems to have died off lately, but it definitely happened. It was hugely hypocritical for anyone who's paying attention, so the only good reason I can come up with is the "enemy of my enemy is my friend".

You're missing the connection. "Lefties" were for ANYONE who was willing to speak truth to power during the Bush years. You recall those years, don't you? Remember when people were smashing the Dixie Chicks' CDs and marginalizing anyone who dared say anything negative about Bush as a terrorist sympathizer? I'm sure that having a leader of another country come out and say what we had been saying about Bush was very refreshing to "Lefties". It was supposed to give some credence to their belief that BUSH was the same kind of terrorist that he claimed to be fighting. But, instead of backing their constituents and helping to beat the anti-war drum, Democrats took the Republican position that speaking ill of the President should never be tolerated by a foreigner and Chavez became Lex Luther.

The taxi cab driver who drove us to the airport on our return trip from Orlando was from Venezuela. He told us he moved his family to the U.S. because of Chavez.

He also told us that Venezuela used to be a decent country with a fairly democratic government. Not any more, all gone. Those that can are leaving the country in droves.

I asked him why Chavez would befriend Castro and Iran, and he explained that he was taking advice from the more successful terrorist dictators of the world for his own playbook. Absolute power, and all that.

Hopefully Chavez's cancer and pneumonia will recover, and soon.

Some taxes? An unjust war? You're in La-La-Land if you can't tell the difference between Chavez and Bush. Chavez has usurped the government and is basically advocating Venezuelans to murder certain groups of undesirables in the street. Chavez was on my radar way before anyone in the US gave a crap about him. You're the one trying to jam a square peg into a round hole here. I guess by your logic Bush isn't that bad either, since he's so on par with Chavez.

Look, this was never meant to be a pissing contest between who is worse, Bush or Chavez. But, for the record, my money is STILL on Bush. Now, allow me to clarify why I think you and your family are so anti-Chavez:

The pro-Chávez political analyst Gregory Wilpert argued, in his study of the Bolivarian administration, that the opposition movement was dominated primarily by members of the middle and upper classes. He further argued that this wealthy elite was particularly furious at the Bolivarian government because they themselves had lost much of their dominance over Venezuelan politics with the introduction of the 1999 constitution and the relegitimization of all areas of government that it required. He went on to argue that this wealthy elite subsequently used its control of the country's mass media to create an anti-Chávez campaign aimed primarily at the middle classes, stirring up the latent racism and classism that existed in Venezuelan culture. One of the most prominent examples of this was through the popularization of the racist term ese mono ("that monkey") which began to be applied to Chávez by his opponents, who would also often accuse him of being "vulgar and common".Both Venezuelan and Western opposition media also characterized Chávez's supporters, who were known as the Chávistas, as being "young, poor, politically unsophisticated, antidemocratic masses" who were controlled, funded and armed by the state, and they were regularly referred to as "hordes" in opposition media discourse, which also commonly referred to the Bolivarian Circles as "terror circles".

The poor people were given a voice. Some of them probably were empowered to commit atrocities against the people who they believed to be their former oppressors...like your ranch-owning family.

DROxINxTHExWIND: You're missing the connection.

No I'm not - you're being deliberately obtuse on this one. I'm not talking about people who were criticizing Bush being called lefties, I'm talking about those fellating Chavez. Calling him a great leader, anything said about him was obviously a lie, etc. In the face of overwhelming proof that Chavez was happily committing all sorts of human rights violations that would be an anathema to anyone who cares about personal liberty, these lefties were defending him as a paragon of virtue. They existed here on Fark (hell - maybe even a year or two ago), they existed and were damned vocal. Had they just said something like, "yeah, he's criticizing Bush, which we agree with - but he's a douche in the big picture, so we don't support him" then he wouldn't be getting nearly the shiat he's getting now.

DROxINxTHExWIND: Doom MD: Some taxes?

The poor people were given a voice. Some of them probably were empowered to commit atrocities against the people who they believed to be their former oppressors...like your ranch-owning family.

Wow. It takes balls to talk out of your ass like that to someone who is actually living through that shiat.

ronaprhys: DROxINxTHExWIND: Doom MD: Go ahead and use him for your little political rants, I'm sure the girls in home economics are really impressed. Most sane people can see a real difference. For some people this is their life and livelihood being taken away at gunpoint. Go fark yourself.

Smh. The guy biatching about a dictatorship can't stand anyone having a different point of view. I wonder how many people Chavez called "insane" for having an opinion? And next time, please respond with insults that make sense. The girls in Home Ec? Why would I have a computer in my Home Ec class? Lol.

Are you denying that Chavez has systematically stolen infrastructure from outside investors? That he's systematically suppressed the press? Changed the Constitution to allow him to serve additional terms? Arrested folks based on political motivations? That Venezuela isn't significantly worse now than it was years ago?

I've got plenty of relatives in Latin America. Plenty of those paisas believe that their countries (infrastructure, resources, etc.) were stolen from them by "outside investors".

The press? On one hand, you've got Chavez, who has "suppressed the press" and on the other, you've got the US "press" that systematically refuses to live up to its responsibility as the people's watchdog over the government.

Politically-motivated arrests!? EGAD! Not here! Surely that wouldn't happen here.

Two minutes hate. Get some.

But whatever you do, do NOT run out of outside threats.

DROxINxTHExWIND: Hugo Chavez is the most contrived, made up super-villian in world history.

Sean Penn, is that you?
