Sony's Vaio Duo 11 looks really interesting seeing as it has computer guts in an active (rather than capacitive) touch screen.

Only thing that concerns me is, well, it's a Sony.

I have a netbook and it is amazing for work travel. I can load books or movies on it for the flight, I have MS Office on it, so I can just plug in a projector and run Power Point presentations, I can get email and surf the web, and if it gets stolen or broken in transit, it was $200, so no big deal.

whatever, netbooks are awesome, and now many of them are touch screen runnin win8, they're even better. I love my netbook it kicks ass and is 1/4 the price of your little ipad or whatever, with your $200 keyboard accessory that essentially you use to turn it into... a netbook.

So, once again, Apple gets credit for something they didn't do? Cheap production quality and razor thin margins killed the netbook. At best, Apple was smart enough not to play the game. They were busy playing a nice game of chess.
