Hickory-smoked: BGates: Al Gore (super global warming guy) sells his network to a state owned news provider. The state (Qatar) makes it's money by the state run oil company. How is this OK with your super duper global warming buddies?

First, Al Jazeera Media Network hasn't been a public institution for a few years.

Second, Qatar is a regional leader in renewable energy. The solar installations being built will run 80% of their desalination plants.

But by all means, if there's evidence of a pro-petroleum agenda being pushed by AJ, it should be simple to find. Right? I mean, FOX News' is easy enough to prove.

First, Al Jazeera is owned by the state of Qatar.

Second, petroleum make up 70% of Qatar economy.

But by all means dispute those facts til your face is blue. It still won't make you right. Not sure what FOX News has to do with my statement about Al Gore being a hypocrite?

BGates: I agree. I could care less, but Al Gore making money that's linked to petroleum is typical of his type. Never practice what you preach. And unless you are one of Al Gores super duper global warming buddies, I wasn't asking the question of you. So get over it.

It had to be said because (whether your intent or not) your comment just added to the string of "lol, Algore is a hypocrite and therefore (and furthermore) everything about this is bad and you're all terrorists" that every troll has posted in the past two threads about this.

Yes and no. They were reclassified as a private entity a couple of years ago, but the state still holds significant stake.

Let's discuss this civilly.

As The Bestest already pointed out, your initial comment is inaccurate, but we'll leave that aside for now. What specifically is the nature of your accusation? Is it that AJ, being partially or wholly owned by the Qatar state, is going to reverse Current's stance on renewable energy? Or is it that Al Gore, because he promotes alternative energy, should naturally shun and hate any entities that profited from oil, even if that has absolutely nothing to do with AJ's editorial policies?

Because unless I'm missing something significant, neither of these arguments make any rational sense.

karnal: Al-Jazeera is an anti- American Arab television network primarily known as a mouthpiece for al-Qaeda among Fox viewers and Rush listeners, not by anyone who has actually watched Al-Jazeera English.

Well, I'm just enjoying right-winger angst. Please, cry more. It is nourishing.
