"I didn't see my face until the next day and you wonder how it's going to look," she said. "I was pretty shocked. But my overarching thought was I've covered events with military members who have been through a lot worse than me, and they've come through. I kept thinking, 'I can do this. I'm fortunate.'"

If that's not the most modest and darling thing to come from a celebrity in the wake of a personal tragedy, then hell I don't know what is.  They should all have such perspective.

I wouldn't get too fond of Hannah Storm's positive and refreshing attitude, the Fark Misogyny Brigade™ will be in shortly to tell you why.

When I heard her describe the incident she sounded like a dumbass. This is why women belong in the kitchen and away from the grill.

Women, learn from this uppity wench.

The gas grill is not yours. Stay away from it. It sense a lack of penis then strikes with mighty flamey fury.

Men, protect your women. Knock the tongs from her hand, hurl the ketchup bottle over the neighbor's fence and send her to the kitchen to make the potato salad.

/grills are actually totally asexual in nature. misogynists aren't, however.

Haha, I thought of that too. Although they were sort of lazy on the necklace part of that. It's totally not suspicious that the boss's wife went up in flames at the gas grill and a guy we've never seen before is standing over her ripping her jewelry off.

Supposedly she's a pretty bad sports reports/talking head, but then again I'm not sure how that makes her worse than anyone else on ESPN.

Storm was preparing dinner at her home in Connecticut on Dec. 11 when she noticed the flame on her grill had gone out. When she turned off and reignited the gas, flame roared right into her face.

Well, next time don't hold the match in your teeth.... Seriously, who the hell hovers over a gas fixture when lighting it? That's the nice part about the butane lighters everyone uses, they allow you to stand back a little.

Also Hannah, next time your flame goes out, turn off the burner open the lid, turn on a fan, or otherwise air out the area, and then relight. Got to let that gas dissipate.

Also, wear cotton or wool when you are working with flames. Bare skin is preferable to polyester and other highly flammable fabrics.

I wouldn't call this Misogyny Brigade material, but I found her comments to be a relatively shallow and contrived attempt to reflect herself in the vicarious glory of non-related military heroism.

The ESPN article for this old news goes a little further: "More than anything, I feel gratitude," she said. "Something like this really makes you appreciate everything you have, even the chance to wake up on New Year's Day and do your job."

I don't think she's any better or worse than any other TV newsreader, but I think she's sincere about this. Facial scars would put her TV broadcasting career in jeopardy.*

Unless of course, that's what she actually thought at the time, that's what actually got her through it and was merely answering the question honestly and didn't think beyond that. I agree your interpretation is possible but I didn't take it that way.
