As terrible as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch is, their samples turned me on to Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground at a young age, and for this I am grateful.

...and the voice of Coach McGuirk on Home Movies, as well as "The Master" (Dr. Orpheus' netherworld mentor) on Venture Bros. Also in a couple of family guy episodes as the convenience store manager.

He had his own show for a little while, but it was bad. Dude should stick to voice work, since he's damn good at it.

/also various voices on Dr. Katz
//he's all up in Adult Swim's biznass

Count me as one who still refers to this twice nom'd actor as 'Marky Mark'.

He's a strange breed as an actor to me: When he's playing a character in his wheelhouse, he is solid. (Fear, The Departed, Ted are some where he's awesome!) But if it requires he step the tiniest bit outside of his range, it falls flat. (The Happening, Four Brothers) But, overall, I can't say he made the wrong decision to go into acting - and he seems to get better with age.

Actually, I prefer "Mahkey Mahk".

Even though I've lost a great deal of my mass accent in the last 20 years I still refer to him in that accent.

He's from the Halle Berry school of acting. He plays himself every time.

I like him, but Dirk Diggler is no different from any other character he has played. TED may as well have been a sub-chapter of Boogie Nights.

really? he has the SAME voice for every character he's ever done, yet it took you this long to realize the connection between bob and archer?

i bet you didn't realize the tick (both animated and live action) is the same guy who plays joe swanson on family guy

Even weirder: the voice of Archer is also occasionally on Venture Brothers as the necromancer's spirit guide (who lives in his daughters closet).

Really? I always thought it would be funny if they did a crossover episode where the Tick visited Joe and they argued over who could do a better impersonation of Puddy from Seinfeld. Then they played a game of skylanders and freaked out when one of the character's voices sounded just like them.

Just don't call him Eddie.

Diggler was his best role because it is probably the character he is closest to, and he doesn't have the acting range to do much more. He's no action hero, and certainly not believable as a school teacher. Porn star? yeah, he pulls off that role. Coming in a close second is Fear. Totally believable as a white trash psycho ex boyfriend.

That looks like a promo shot for a gay porn. Can't believe that whoever was in charge of the photo shoot didn't see that and say, "Nope, put your shirts on, that picture isn't going to happen."

Don't you get too scared

You can't get me thunder
Cause you're just God's farts!"

Once in a while I will, but not exclusively. The funny part is, he got into hip hop piggybacking on Donnie.  Now he's the one in the family with money to spend on opening the family restaurant chain.

I think Donnie is doing OK for himself. He had a successful tour with NKOTB/Backstreet Boys and gets a few TV and movie roles here and there. Donnie's not swimming in cash like Mark, but at least he's earning enough to live comfortably.

a "few TV roles here and there"? Like every single episode of the show that he's starred on for CBS for the past three years? That few?

I kinda wish he had been on that plane on 9/11. Imagine how different the world would be if Marky Mark lead a successful passenger revolt and one of the towers was still standing. Would we have gotten talked into Iraq? Would he have been drafted and forced to lead the attack? What a strange world that would have been.

Did you guys know that Jesse from Breaking Bad was not only on "The Price is Right" but was also featured in a Saturday morning Apple Jacks commercial?

Did you guys know that Ringo Starr and George Carlin were both on "Shining Time Station" before it turned into "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends"?

Did you guys know that Dave Grohl was in a band before Foo Fighters? And Kurt Cobain was in that band too?

Did you guys know that Morpheus is Cowboy Curtis on Pee Wee's Playhouse?

Did you guys know that Luke Skywalker is the voice of the Joker in the early 90s (and superkickassawesome) Batman animated series?

Did you guys know that Giles Martin brought in a budding new record production talent to help him with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, who would then go on to produce Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon?

Did you guys know that Alfred Hitchcock appears in every single one of his films?

Did you guys know that the voice of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop did the non-special character voices for the Imperial units in Star Wars: Empire at War?

Did you guys know that the dad on Ben 10 is the Colonel from Metal Gear Solid?

And that Wakka from Final Fantasy is lovable Bender?

And that Bender from Breakfast Club will give you a handy in a Taco Bell parking lot?

grinding_journalist: TrainingWheelsNeeded: It's all good, just killing time on a slow friday. I am actually unfamiliar with both animation projects and just learned the "quizzical Lion" thing today from some tattoo thread and wanted to use it.

Gotcha.

Well, if you like Batman (the character), watch the Batman animated series. By far and away the best Batman cartoon ever. (This cartoon is why Kevin Conroy will always be "the voice of Batman")

If you don't detest anime, and I mean really really HATE it, watch Cowboy Bebop. IMO (and many others') it's one of the finest series ever created in the genre. If you're on the fence about anime, it'll push you over one way or another.

Related: Mark Hamill's character in Castle in the Sky sounds just like the Joker. It threw me because I kept expecting every sentence to end with a crazed cackle.

Patrick Warburton did play the Tick in the live-action version of the show, but the animated version's voice was done by Townsend Coleman, not Patrick.

Do people really have to publicly admit that they may have done some shiatty things as a teenager? Marky Mark does it and he's "a racist jackass thug". Mike Tyson beats the shiat out of an old white lady for her money and he's "a product of his environment."

South Boston is a shiathole. Anyone with notions of white (or Northern, FTM) supremacy should take a quick tour of it.

People still call Tyson a thug to this day.. Sorry, but beating a Vietnamese man so severely that he loses an eye and calling him a "slant-eyed gook" makes you a racist jackass thug. Beating an old lady, regardless of what race she is, strictly for money still makes you a jackass thug, but more of the garden-variety type.

Also, while Marky Mark may not be a thug anymore - and good on him for changing his ways - he still remains a douche of the highest order.
