meanmutton: skinink: At this point I don't care about the Next Big Cable Killer. I'm happy with my Netflix and Amazon Prime memberships plus the Roku I use for streaming. In addition I just noticed that Amazon Prime is really picking up with the number of films/shows that you can stream. I'm seeing a lot of good content from 2012. I'm very happy that I cut the cord from cable and am saving $1,200 a year I wasted on Comcast.

Do you really find anything on Amazon Prime that isn't on Netflix?

I had Netflix first, then got Amazon Prime. They do have some differences, but it's genre specific, and it rotates just as much as Netflix. The reason I keep both is:

1. Netflix gets new streaming shows first, and a lot of kids shows that my daughter will watch (not necessarily new ones, either; she'll watch everything from Fat Albert and Scooby Doo to Fan Boy and Chum Chum).

2. Amazon Prime free two day shipping. No shipping costs no matter how much it weighs? You betcha.

3. I have three ROKU devices. Netflix only lets me watch on two at a time, and so I get to watch whatever on Amazon while the wife and daughter watch Netflix.

4. Can't find anything free that I want to watch? Got the whole Amazon library to rent or buy in two seconds. Red Box and a media store without getting off the couch? Sign me up.

...and all for about $15 a month for both (not counting rentals or purchases).

The Apple TV hooks into Netflix, Hulu Plus, NBA, NHL and MLB channels. Of course it also hooks into iTunes, and you do know that iTunes can play files that weren't purchased through iTunes, don't you?

Even barring any Intel or Sony device, the internet alone will easily replace it. So many people are just using a TV as a giant computer monitor now for Netflix, Hulu or pirated media.

Since Sony's programming arm has its head up its ass, I can predict based on their past behavior that, should the guys from Sony's Hardware side make this happen, Sony-owned Media will NEVER be allowed to play on it, due to excessive DRM.

Sony is two companies at war with each other: cool engineer-inventors, and assmunch IP lawyers.
