There's only a BCS champion - the Division I football championship will be decided Saturday between Sam Houston St. and North Dakota St.

So we all lose?

kilgorn: OK.....Bama wins it all

The next year's preseason rankings are more relevant than the last poll of this season, excluding who gets the crystal football -- and they don't wait for the polls to come out to hand that out.

Pretty good concentration to catch that one.

grinding_journalist: ScouserDuck: I don't watch NFL but why are teams rushing to hire bum coaches who just got fired?

You're right, you don't.

Check the record of 'new' NFL coaches like:
Dave Shula
Marty Mornenwhig (sp?...nvm don't care)
Bruce Coslet
Eric Mangini (Jets version...okay he sucked with the Browns too)
Mike Singletary
Ron Rivera (1 more year)

A new organization plus a tried & true coach is generally better than gambling on a college guy or some assistant without the nod of an existing HC.

Donnchadha: You only go for two when you need to. If you go for 1 after a TD when down 15, then you're down 8 which is a one possession game.

But if you take it earlier then you have the opportunity to make up for it in the same number of drives it would regularly take you rather than needing another drive if you screw it up.

Screw it up at the end and you're f*cked. Screw it up earlier and you can still get there in the same number of possessions.

That sounds like a pain in the buns

If you say so, wasn't USC ranked #1 in preseason?...how'd they do against the Wreck....lol

Nah. You're Fiesta Bowl champions. Which is about as significant as BCS champions.

/does anyone care about the rankings a month from now?

Where'd they finish in the BCS poll that was released after the bowls? Oh wait, there isn't one.

Love how ESPN never mentions possible sanctions. I love Oregon and hope nothing happens, but at least discuss it.

Thanks for reading that sign for me, Brad. I always wanted to learn to read but never found the time

It's more psychological. I'd bet most of the players aren't doing math in the huddle, but they understand momentum. You fail on a 2 pt conversion, you're going to feel a let down, despite just scoring.

Sanctions for what?

2013-01-03 11:44:54 PM
The stoopid scouting report Oregon paid for to not get that particular player.

welp

Oh, I guess I'm just a fan of smart coaching and players smart enough to understand that going for the 2-pt conversion early is the smart move.

Well, this was a painful game for this Wildcat to watch, but nowhere near the Baylor game. Good job Ducks. Hope we get to meet again.

From this happy Duck fan, Hats off to K. State for a great season. There's no shame on the field tonight.

Where is this mythical crowd everyone speaks of?
The echoes during the trophy presentation are awful/funny. Plenty of tight shots on corporate tools.

For the lack of a decent placekicker, Ducks should have been #1

Did tostidos pay the fans to chant "we want chips".

Chip will be back at Oregon after a couple dismal years of failure in the NFL.

Actually, it is more of a "repetitions mean better execution" thing. The Ducks go for 2 points because they are high-scoring enough that it rarely matters if they don't get it. But they are the team most likely to get it when they do need it because they routinely do 2-point conversions, as opposed to teams that only pull the play out when their asses are on the line. Same thing with 4th-and-are-you-insane: Oregon sees 4th down conversions as something relatively normal, so when it is truly needed they have the confidence that this is a normal play. My risk-adverse, play-the-safe-odds, NFL-watching friend literally growls at Chip for doing this stuff; he totally agrees that it is good practice, but he cannot accept you would call these plays on purpose and with malice of forethought. That the Ducks pull the plays off routinely hurts his head.

Sportscenter had Thomas going 26 mph over the goal line on the opening kickoff. He's also on Oregon's track team.

Of course, on the track team, you're not in pads.

emtbiz: #47 should be ejected for that forearm shiver

Linebacker Kiko Alonso wasn't called because he was trying to pop the ball loose. Blame Klein for trying to eke out an extra yard and letting himself get stood up.

Alonso is no punk. He's been popping balls loose all year. I get why the casual viewer who doesn't watch the Ducks doesn't know that but it was ridiculous that the ESPN sportscasters had no idea about Alonso and his numerous caused fumbles but instead biatched that he was trying to shiv Klein.

Alonso is a class act.

Chip is close to a deal with the Browns. Joy...
