I have been calling him the big Balogne for the last 5 years. It has been painfully obvious he was going to be anything but worth the first overall pick. how different the raptors would have been with Aldridge, Roy or Rondo instead.

On a side note, Brian Failangelo has proven himself now. Pheonix was all daddys doing. This apple has fallen far from tree.

Your love for tall dark and euro brian has failed for the last time. Give it up.

I can't really fault him for taking Bargnani #1. For one, 7 footers with range don't just come along every day. For another, it was sort of a weak draft. Roy had the knee issues and nobody thought Rondo was worth that high of pick at the time. Aldridge...I can't really argue with you there, but Bargnani did have the potential to bring that extra inside/outside dimension.

The bottom line is that he doesn't play like he's as big as he is. Maybe Mitchell could have helped there, I don't know.

Matter of fact, just for fun let's re-do that draft with hindsight:

1. Aldridge
2. Rondo
3. Rudy Gay
4. Brandon Roy (?)
5. Paul Millsap
6. Kyle Lowry
7. Bargnani
8. J.J. Redick
9. Ronnie Brewer
10. Take your pick of Jordan Farmar, Shannon Brown, Steve Novak, Ty Thomas, Boobie Gibson, Leon Powe...I mean, yeesh. This goes to shiat quickly. Adam Morrison might still go in the top 20.

This was also the year where the Knicks gave the #2 pick to the Bulls as part of the Eddy Curry trade. To steal an old Bill Simmons line, I will now light myself on fire.

Crap, missed Sefolosha. He's probably in that Redick/Brewer zone.

Then again, considering who was the Knicks' hierarchy at the time, you really think they'd make a smart pick anyway?

The real oddity to all of this is that even after the raptors use soft gloves with him he STILL cannot play a single full season in his entire career. Not only is he suspect in talent/skill and his use of it. but the man is freakin MR glass. Sammy J might lose his role in the next movie if Balogne is still anywhere near north america at the time of filming.

I'd take Rondo over Aldridge, but otherwise that looks about right.

it's worth pointing out that Mitchell has a radio show in which he takes controversial stances to draw listeners in. it's also worth pointing out that he has not exactly been a hot coaching commodity since being fired by the Raptors.

So you still think the big balogne has a shot at being an allstar in the NBA ? How many years are you planning on waiting until this happens before calling the man a bust?

In a world where Hasheem Thabeet still walks, Bargnani is a draft disappointment at worst.

oh, he's a bust alright. i just don't find Mitchell to be terribly credible.

Oh ok, I thought you were using his credibility to say big Balogne isnt done yet. But I get it. I wondered why Mitchell wasnt back in the NBA after so many years and then I heard him on one of the local radio stations. Based on his interview i figured he pissed off too many people and had a "rep" around the league that basically has him blackballed. Sort of like Ted Nolan in the NHL.

I disagree. I listen to that station (FAN590) all the time. They have Mitchell on every few weeks or so....that is the first time I've ever heard him say that something negative like this towards the Raptors or towards Bargnani.

This is easy to believe though, Colangelo has probably never even played basketball he knows nothing about it. He can run the business probably but the rest of it, he's a total failure.
