They have priceless art, sculpture etc etc all plundered from all corners of earth. Most of it should have been returned to the people from whence it was stolen thousands of years ago.

It wasn't a very christian place IMHO.

If they really were the church of Jesus all of that stuff would have been returned or sold off for the good of the meek.

I'd be interested in the details here on what requirements they won't meet, but the way they insist on secrecy and transfer money through the HS basically IS money laundering. It's not a matter of meeting the documentation requirements to show you're not playing dirty by the intent of the rules. They ARE playing dirty by the intent, and thus cannot provide credible documentation to the contrary.

I had the same feeling walking through the Vatican. I couldn't help but wonder how much good all the money spent on guilding this and that in gold and draping everything in marble could have done for humanity over the ages. Then I went to the gift shop...$2,000-3,000 for these TINY mosaics. I don't doubt that a TON of work goes into them...but yeesh (and good luck selling those once you're "cash only"). Everything in the store seemed outrageously expensive and I couldn't help but think about all the older tourists who were packing the place and shelling out for something since it was their "once in a lifetime" trip to the Vatican. It felt very, very exploitative. I found the whole experience distasteful.
